I hope I spelled that right...I'm brand new to khukuris, anxiously awaiting the arrival of my first one, a 21 inch Sirupati.

Having been a lurker on this forum for a few days now, I am coming to the conclusion that the khuks I like best seem to be the Chitlangis. Well, best may not be a good word, lets just say I find this model very attractive.

What can you guys tell me about these khukuris as compared to other models? Any and all trivia and/or information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

They are light due to fullers -- easy to handle. Also look good. Handle is hard to let go of. Price is right.

I'll let the experts in the field handle the performance.

I have a 21in Chitlangi by Durba and it is my favorite so far. Very light and quick in the hand, incredibly beautiful and elegant. It performs as well as it looks, too. Mine has been used to clear wild rose bushes and locusts saplings and the results have been most satisfactory. Wood splitting performance is higher than you would expect from the light weight and (relatively) narrow blade profile. Try it, you'll like it.;) :D

Now I must have an 18in model for hiking and backpacking, and then horn and wood handle models from each kami......The Chitlangi strain of HIKV is particularly virulent, so be warned.

I am both terrified and thrilled at the prospect of seeing pictures of the Tin Chirra- the fullers may be the key to the virulence of this form of HIKV. If so, then I am going to have to start selling guns, kidneys, and whatever else I have left of value.

RB,

the fullers may be the key to the virulence of this form of HIKV

Fullers certainly make it a lot worse for me....An alternate/additional prescription may be a YCS; unless you've already self-medicated.:)

Some aspects of the Chitlangi's feel are even more pronounced in the YCS, at least to me.

Don't have any kobras to compare. But it feels about as 'light' as an 18in Sirupati but balanced differently because of the fullers. It's hard to explain but it feels very quick in the hand. I don't think a single person on the forum has posted anything but a glowing review since Yvsa snatched up the first one. I give my complete and total recommendation to all my fellow forumites on this one. If you like kuhkuris you'll like this one. Period.

In fact, if you get an 18 or 21 inch Chitlangi you aren't happy with from HI I'll happily trade you my very nice 20 inch AK for it on top of Uncle Bill's gaurantee. :D No joke.

Pat

Mostly from memory, but I had a 25" Kobra that was just too big for me (sent it to AC, who has a "sword Jones" anyway). The 25", IIRC is heavy and, although not clumsy, far less maneuverable than the Chitlangi. The Chit's handling IS hard to describe. It is fast, comfortable and "hits to point of aim" more naturally than any other one I have, except (possibly) the GS.

Coonskinner let me welcome you to the Cantina if I haven't already done so!!!!:) We've had so many new guys show up lately I can't keep track.

My thoughts on the Chitlangi are well known by the regulars here:D so I did a search on "chitlangi or dui chiarra chainpuri and came up with these threads you might want to check out....

I got my YCS during the 20% off orders sale while Pala was here...After what I'd read, I couldn't help but succumb. Were that not occurring, I might have been able to resist.

Like you I've deliciously mixed feelings about seeing pics of a tin chirrua.:) Berk's khuk was enough to put me close to the edge. (pun intended)

And to Coonskinner: get a Chitlangi PGA if you can!!
It's been called magic for a good reason.

Thanks, guys, for all the information. I am going to have to get one some of these days. I would have liked to get today's PGA, but I need to bounce back from my current khukuri purchase first.

I can see how this could get out of hand.:D

I have a Bura 21" Chitlangi coming from Uncle and a 18" GS coming from Terry. Let me tell you I am GEE GOLLY GOSH DARN EXCITED!!!:D

Debt IS good!!!;) :p
