? about the JYD II

I was just wondering if anyone knows what the reason is for the little cutout on the locking liner side of the JYD II? I love mine, just got it friday from NGK, cant stop flipping it :D. Also, call me crazy, but I really like the pocket clip. I think its unique and pretty damn cool.
 
It's a pretty thick liner so that's the cutout that will allow the liner to flex.
