I haven't seen many posts in this forum about emerson's max-1 model, compared to the specwar, commander, CQC7, etc., and I was wondering why. It makes me think that some or many of you don't like this model and I would like to know if there is any particular reason, since it's size and design seem, to me at least, to lend themselves to utility/EDC use as well or better than most other models.

Predominantly because it's not Waved.

This is fixed with the MD Tactical/Yam M-Wave... ;)

actually i have more non waved EKI's (ie CQC8, spec war, SOCFK, I&I tanto, P-Tac) than waved EKI's (ie SOCFK and commander) so while i like the wave it isnt the only influence on me, i just dont like the maxx 's looks myself, it never "grabbed" me lol, i am sure its a good one, just not my cup of joe. too many EKI's i like to bother w/1 i dont........

sifu,

;)

Funny thing that. I'm the same as you -- preferred the non-waved ones (I&I Tanto, CQC8) much more than the waved ones.

But I carry a SOC now because I like the classic Specwar handle but wanted the updated 2003 traction grooves, lock cutout, and stop pin.

I have a Mach-1 coming to me soon... will let you know if we've both been missing out. ;)

I carry primarily inside waist band so the wave has little use for me. My favorites are the CQC7B, SOCFK, and CQC-8. The Max 1 (formerly Mach 1) is a good knife, very utilitarian, I had one but frankly didn't like its look either.

biogon its hard to beat the SOCFK its one of my favs for sure, let me know about the maxx when ya get it.....

The Mach-1 has become one of my favourite EDC's. I think its very underrated as an SD blade as well. One of the better-looking EKI models, IMHO. I've had mine since 2000, and it has never let me down. Good luck with yours.

Just got mine.

I will post a longer review soon, but here are first impressions:

Positives:
- Extremely comfortable... just like all Emersons.
- Secure grip
- Point is inline with the center of the grip line for excellent handling
- Seemingly even lower sabre grind than usual. The grind makes the spine full-thickness all the way out to the tip.

Negatives:
- Looks like it may be one of the worst slicers in the EKI line (and that's saying something!) due to the grind and edge thickness
- Pivot to lock/tang mate distance is extremely short. Also, not a lot of material around the pivot. This makes me doubt the strength of the lock (not slip reliability -- actual static weight strength before lockbar collapse.)
