Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone has handled the new black-handled Salsa. I saw the picture of it on knifecenter and it looks like clip is reversible. Plus it looks like the compression lock release is smooth like the one on the 'Lil Temperance. Is the picture correct? If it is, then I'll be the proud owner of one of these little guys shortly. :D Those were the only things I didn't like about my cranberry Salsa. Those serrations on the lock release really tore up your hand when you reached into the pocket.

Thanks guys,
Flinx

PS: Is the Salsa still made in Taiwan? If it is, are there going to be any other models made there?

Hi Flinx. You are correct. The clip is reversible and doesn't stick out as far and the compression lock release has been improved.

Just our normal continual refinement process. Mostly the result of ELUs writing to us or talking on the forums. We're pretty good at listening to our customers, at least we try to be.

Whatchathink 'bout a G-10 Salsa?

sal

I think a G-10 Salsa would be really classy. If you go for a color besides black, make it gray. The new gray Calypso is a very handsome knife and I think a gray Salsa would have a similar appeal. Please keep it made in Taiwan for the cheaper price. I wouldn't mind a steel upgrade like Vg-10 or AUS-10 if you go to G-10. My guess is that keeping made in Taiwan would keep the price down.

Now that would a knife!
I'd modify the blade shape a bit, though... (just me and my crazy ideas) ;)

I would love to see this knife with G-10 or Black Linen Micarta side covers - this knife could have a very long marketing knife as it has many inherent features built in - great knife!:D

Thanks for the quick answer Sal! You betcha!! A G-10 Salsa would be awesome!!!:D Any color!

Sal,

A G10 Salsa would be a great idea! My EDC is a Salsa and I would love to see it in VG-10. G10 and VG-10, you can't go wrong!

Hey Sal, I just got my set of Black Aluminum Salsas in the mail today! I would like to say I must be latino at heart because I would prefer to have a Dark Green G10 Salsa (the color of real salsa). Anyhow, I think the G10 on the Lil' Temperance would be a great color for a G10 version of the Salsa...just do a sprint run again to test out the reception for them as you did the Black Dodos. I know that you already have my vote and my pocket book ready being in the Collectors' Program!:D

My Black Salsa is on the way!! Did anybody end up with the "Purple" Salsa? Not an official color, but apparently some of them came out that way. One of the dealers I do alot of business with surprised me with one awhile back.

I'd love to see a Salsa done in a dark rich maroon G10. Maybe a little more red than the Forums Vesuvius though.

G10 Salsa would be pretty cool!

How about adding low ride clip like the Meercat?

With G10 and improved lock I would give it another try.

This lock did not work for me.

I got rid of a Vesuvius and a Salsa because of the lock, and only because of the lock. I did not pursue an ATR for the same reason.

I would be all over a Salsa in Black or Gray G-10, with a liner or back lock.

I am very interested in the new Vesuvius with a back lock. I guess I'll have to try the new and improved compression lock, but I would not buy one without trying it first.

jhillas,I hated all the compression locks I tried until I tried the Para.It works well, altough I would have liked a lockback or linerlock better.

I would love to see G-10 on the salsa! Actually, I'd love to see G-10 on all Spyderco knives! G-10 rocks!

G-10 all the way. Also design the wire clip so that the ends that mount under the screw are bent back under like the Meerkat so it will ride lower in the pocket.

I'm not sure that making a G-10 Salsa in Taiwan would keep the price down much.

We're working with this particular maker because of his skill, not because he is in Taiwan.

We ship in Japanese steel to Taiwan for the Salsa. If we use G-10, we'll have to ship in our own custom made USA made G-10. By the time you ship in expensive raw materials, labor costs can not make up a big difference.

Our Seki makers also use our USA made G-10. We assume that Spyderco customers would rather have the better materials which means better performance, rather than "just a cheaper price".

Sal,please don't ever change Spydercos G10,it is many levels above anyone elses.
