I am about to buy a DMT diamond aligner for sharpening knives. What would you guys buy the aligner for 4" stones or the magna-glide which uses mostly the diamond duofold.

I was also wondering this as I can't seem to get a good edge doing it by hand with my DC4. Bumpin' it hoping to get more answers instead of starting a new thread.

I like how the Magna version works because the diafolds are a good idea. They fold closed and are double sided to save space, yet open up to have a handle giving me more control if I decide to use them by themselves. The only thing I'm iffy about is the strength of the magnet and how well it holds the diafold in place. It seems like the version with the stones would hold them much better. Any opinions/experience?

Get the aligner and grab you one of the XXF stones while you're at it.
Your blade will sing a song and dance for you when you get done. :D

If you use the diafold system, you're gonna end up with one extra stone (extra fine or coarse) if you want the fine stone. You also won't be able to use the extra extra coarse stone, because it's only available in 4".

I would get the 4" version instead of the diafold. The ability to use XXC stones is a huge plus if you ever need to reprofile.
