i think i am about to buy my first strider, super excited!
i want to make sure however that it has the new lock up..how do i make sure of this before i buy it? is it best to just contact the dealer will they be able to tell me? or should i try and found out when the knife was made?
thanks for any suggestions:D

I think pretty much all that's out there now a days is the new lock up for the main dealers. But, yes if your not sure definitely ask for you piece of mind. You won't be disappointed they kick ass.

Yeah pretty much all dealers have are Gen 7s which have the new lock up, but True North Knives has a few Gen 6 SnGs in stock but they are labeled as such. Striders are awesome and im sure you'll love it. What strider are you planning on getting?

thats helpful thanks, i jus checked out TNK sng's and saw the labeled gen 6's. So i take it any strider there that isnt labeled gen 6 is gen 7?
most probably going for an smf dgg ranger green s30v, not 100% sure yet tho..so hard to make the decision and finally take the leap!!

Congrats on joining the strider club! I recently got in to Striders amd now own a Lego black G10 SnG with cpm154 stonewashed blade with flamed TI and a SMF CC earth brown g10 tiger stripe cpm154 and flamed TI. Both are awesome!

You can't go wrong dealing with TNK, Ryan at bluelinegear, or monkey edge.

Post pics when you get it!!!

BLG and monkeyedge are my go to websites for striders! Be warned you can't own just one I've bought 3 in less than a month, all from the 2 sites I mentioned and all have the new lockup and are rock freaking solid, when you get that SMF in your hand youll wanna go destroy some stuff with it , I know I get that urge every time I pick mine up and I got a 3/4 grind SMF tanto on the way I'm sure that urge to destroy will only get stronger with that tanto blade.

So i take it any strider there that isnt labeled gen 6 is gen 7?

probaly, but you can never be too safe, so its a good idea to ask if you're unsure.
its true though, you never get just one. I got a SnG DGG ranger green and stonewashed not long ago, and I recently got an all black Z-Wear SnG and it is awesome.

I have handled a few Striders at the True North Knives booth when they were present during ECCKS 2013, and I found that the locks were very stiff. Probably because Striders need to be broken in well?

was so close to getting one of the z-wears from TNK! I definitely see a Z wear sng in my future;)
just ordered my smf dgg ranger green s30v 3/4 grind..should be here wednesday super excited!!

yea i have heard they need to broken into from a few ppl..i just came across this today on the blueline gear website under strider FAQ's. it said wearing in a strider can sometimes take 300-1000 opening closing cycles! check it out, FAQ#17

Not sure how their current offerings are, but I was able to score a nsn smf for $60 at a flea market while stationed in nc. It's been my edc for approx 2 yrs and I use it like I paid 60 bux for it... So far lock up is still tight, no play as of yet, and holds an edge pretty well and I have no complaints other than a little big in the pocket, and the clip has a gorilla grip that ensures you won't lose it, yet tends to eat your pocket... Hope it helps, shoot me an email if you wanna see pics

I've had about 15 Striders: mostly SMF's and SNG's with a few SJ75's and PT's thrown in. Almost every one had the old lockup. That doesn't mean sticky by itself. Most were flawless in the locks. Striders have been famous long before the new lockup. Heck, I've had Spydercos and even Chris Reeves before with sticky locks.
To answer your question...if the blade tang on the Strider looks more like a half-moon, it's probably the old lockup.

THANK YOU!!! i finally get it, i just saw a review showing the half moon tang and suspected thats what ppl meant by the old lock up, and the new lock up just has the straight edge on the tang. and now u just helped me confirm my thought. oh it finally makes sense:thumbup:
cheers:D

great lookin knives! how do you have a blue lock bar stabilizer? did you order that separately?

That shouldn't be as bad as breaking in black oxide or striped. The ones I've had that were stonewashed were smooth.
