Looking at the Dovo white micarta wet shaving kit. Been meaning to get one for years as I hate buying cartage's and end up using them for months at a time. An tips thing i should know before I pull the trigger. I know safety razors are easier/safer to use, but the straights really appeal to me.

I bought like six really old straights off eBay or whatever, since I'm really good at sharpening and thought I'd be able to get them into shape. Believe me, I got them extremely sharp as far as a knife is concerned, but when it comes to straights, it's just hairpoppin' squared or more. So, trying to learn how to use one, minimizing variables of error, I got a straight which takes disposable double edge safety razor blades; which, one simply snaps in half. Turns out I'm a natural at shaving with a straight, but have come to the humiliating conclusion that my sharpening isn't good enough for this game yet... or I haven't given it the level of attention that it needs.

I say get a cheap Shavette or something with an assortment of blades and learn the straight first, before going nuts over why you're getting burns and nicks with a traditional, because the disposable blades are unforgivingly sharp.

///A couple of cents from Sweden.

Thanks for the replys, just waiting on my next check to get the set up. I am decent at sharpening, been sharpening my friends SR and he uses it almost daily now. Anyway I will throw some picks up when I get it.
