Alright, so I have the head of a Cold Steel Trail Hawk and the handle of a ranger knives renegate tomahawk.

I know this is very basic, but I dont want to screw it up, because my last tomahawk go loose within a few days.

What is the best way to replace the handle? Should I do any kind of sanding? filing?

I dont just want to throw the handle on and hammer it into place. (like a jackass)

I dont have any kind of belt sander and I am not mechanically inclined.

I just want it to be as stable as possible.

I tried searching the archives for advice, but it wont let me search for some reason.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Mike

seems like you might need some sorta wood file or a press to make it work seeing as the handle/eye are probably differently shaped

An arbor press if you have access to one. I've had decent luck with a vise on my Trail Hawk.

Be sure to get a good fit, no visual gaps between the eye and handle. You could have done the same with your original handle.

Eventually, you will still have to tap it back now and then. Just get used to it.

Soaking the handle in linseed oil before attaching the head helps too.

Sears sells small tubes of epoxy for axe handle replacement. you roll it around in your hand to mix it (like silly putty) and apply it between the head and the handle.I also use a arbour press, but a mallet will work if you support the head firmly while tapping the handle. I haven't had any of my heads come off and I've tried pretty hard..:D
