i was looking at me saber 1/4 (realized it was actually 7/32" today :( ) sj and its lazer etch logo, and i was wondering how much wear resistence it had. im not even sure exactly what the lazer etch does to the steel...

for the real beaters out there, how do the logo's hold up on the satin finished baldes where the etc is black?

and taking it a step farther, what if you etched the entire blade surface? i know that that would be rediculously expensive and not even considerable, but, if it could be done, how would it fair?

On my NICK I use almost every day and wash constantly, the laser etch is one of the places where I begin to see signs of slight corrosion and discoloration. The stain spots seem to be coming "out of" the laser etching, if that makes any sense. The rest of the blade has the usual spots and stains that INFI develops from mistreatment, but none of the marks are bad enough for me to be concerned with as they seem to be a natural part of breaking in the blade. I have experienced the same blade spots and discoloration from just about every kitchen knife I have ever really used, but the NICK is the first to have this happen to the blade etching.

I find that better surface finish resists rust better than rough finsh.. I dont think the fact that is was cut with a lazer effects anything... I believe it is the surface finish..

Hope this helps,
