Abrasions on Victorinox Blades

On several of my Victorinox Swiss Army Knives, specially on the 91mm and the 84mm models, I would often find that the large blade or the small blade grazes the adjacent tool or liner creating abrasions on the blade. On my new Sapphire Climber, the large blade grazes the small blade somewhere near the tip when it closes and it has started making abrasions on the large blade. Some of the lines are deeper than what steel polish can handle.

I was just wondering, does anyone else get bothered by this on their Vic SAK's? The quality of Vic SAK's is really awesome but this is one anomaly that bothers me. I haven't seen this on my 111mm Trekker because the blade is aligned straight and alone in its own liner space therefore it doesn't have anything to graze against. This really bothers me though on my 91mm SAK's.

Any one else having problems with this? Serious ones like chipping the blade edge itself?

Thanks for any input.

yes its a common issue with Victorinox and its sometime bother me too..

there are some batch that the large blade and small blade clear perfectly... i love when that happened... sometimes its becouse the pivot point loose or the blide grind was a bit off.. i got a small tinker that after i tighten the pivot point and minimize the wiggle -- its also solve the clearing issue.

BUT, my work around with this issue is some time i thin out the small blade abit until its clear with the big blade... yes its time consuming, but at least it give me satisfaction... and YES i wish Victorinox fix the issue in the factory.

I just looked, and both my camper, recruit, and small tinker have a rub mark on the back of the main blade where it rubs the pen blade. On my Wenger SI, there's a rub mark where it hits the awl on the back side of the main blade.

I doesn't bother me at all, I figure it's just the by product of a working tool that has lots of blades/tools crinked into a small space. To me, SAK's are a real world working tool to use the heck out of, and never mind the dings and scrapes it picks u[ on the way through life. Heck, I've got some scars on me, my knife may as well have too.

Carl.

I just checked too, my tinker and swisschamp main blade rub like that, no biggie I use the hell out of em. All my others including alox pioneer don't do this.

Yep, I just checked 5 SAKS, and 2 show some marks. They seem only cosmetic. My newest is very close, but I can't quite tell if they are actually touching at any point. 2 show complete separation.

My Super Tinker has a single deep line on one of the outer side of the scissors blade. I wonder if these abrasions would one day break the blades at that point or if it would never go that far.

On two of my favorite models, the Sportsman and the Cadet, the master blade and the nail file sometimes rub a little. The rubbing is so slight that it is very unlikely to cause any real damage.

Given the price point of Vics, Cases and most other multi-blade folders, I'm happy to put up with the tiny amount of blade contact that is possible. where it a very high dollar custom, I'd have a problem. I'd rather the dollars go to good steel and design than the last .001 of tolerance.

I guess I'm just being too paranoid about blade damage and being oc about the looks. It is a tool anyway, albeit a good one. Well if it's good enough for you guys, it's good enough for me. Just thankful my new Climber has abrasions that don't seem too deep... yet. :)
