This is my first post. I am always getting my questions answered before I have a chance to ask. This forum is the best info ever.

Question: Does anyone use any type of lubrication on the sanding belts to extend the life or help with the finish.

I found a web site that claims to have a spray that when applied every 20 or so minutes it will extend the life of the belt by 200-300 percent yes 200-300%.

They are offering a free 2oz sample on there web page so I ordered it. Thanks for any onfo.

Some folks, Mr. Goddard included, use a water soluble/dilutable coolant/lubricant (designed for machine tool systems) in a spray bottle to manually wet the belt periodically. Wayne says it really helps a lot. Of, course you have to have waterproof belts.

Heavy grease has been used for years in the metal polishing trade to extend belt life by reducing heat and buildup of cuttings.

Water and water soluable oils are also commonly used for the same reason, reduce heat buildup.

Heat is the enemy of abrasive belts that is why the polishing trade uses a 132" belt as a standard. The longer belt has more time to cool thus increasing the belt life.
