ABS California Bladesmithing Exposition

I just thought you guys might want to know, there will be an ABS hammer-in next month right here in Visalia, California. It's an amazing experience for anyone who loves making knives or just knives in general. It's always a great group of people. This is something I look forward to every year so I thought I'd pass along the information. Hmm, quick! Give me a believable excuse to give my wife!

I will deffinetly try to get down there. Anyone from north of here, or close to me, going and want to possibly carpool?

I have gone to this a couple of times and it is a really good time. lf you can possibly make it, I would recommend you do your best to get there. Not sure if I can make it this year, but I will try. It happens to fall on a long weekend for my son's school, so I may have to go on a family get away.

Cool, sounds fun! Now i have never been to any type of event like this, what would I need to be prepared? I am still new to making as well.

Be prepared to have a great time. Bring some of your work if you'd like to show and some safety glasses if you want to do some forging.
 
Just saw this and am thinking about it. Carpooling would be great. Anybody know a good place to stay. I'd pull my 5th wheel down, but diesel is so darn expensive.

Yeah I remember the Alta hammer in. We should do it again sometime.

I grew up in visalia and my parents still live about 2 miles from the hammer in, so I stay with them. There are a bunch of hotels along hwy 198 that are relatively cheap.
I have to make it work one way or another.

I go right through Stockton on my way down to Visalia. If you and Oldwolf want to carpool, let me know. I've got an extra cab truck so the additional passengers isn't a problem.

Ill have to clear it with my wife first, but I am on a tight budget so the cheaper for me the better. Anywhere I can camp out near by?

It would be great if you guys can carpool. Try calling Mike Vagnino to see about places to stay. He'd know more than I do.
 
Thanks for posting this Ray. Looking forward to seeing you all there. I attended two years ago and was blown away by the great learning experience and fantastic people. One of the main places people stay is Comfort Suites downtown on Acequia Ave. (559)738-1700. It is close to everything you would want and within walking distance many restaurants. That is where I am staying this year. For all that are going, be prepared to have an incredible time! See you there Ray!
 
Eric I remember meeting you briefly a couple of years ago. It will be nice to see you again as well as other new and familiar faces.

Guys don't forget to bring some of your knives. There will be a show on Saturday for anyone who wants to display their work. It's a lot of fun.
 
Hi all, confirmed details today and im headed to visalia! Mike looking forward to chattin it up, it was nice meeting you at the oregon show, Ray cant wait to check out that clean work you do, Brett Mathews got me started 1 year ago in Oct, so this is a special trip for me! And i get to catch up with some family in 3 rivers! GHaile
