This past Thursday I took the ABS J.S. performance test under the supervision of Master Smith Lin Rhea. I PASSED!

This first video is of me cutting a 1'' hanging manila rope:

In this Video I am cutting through one of the two required 2x4's.

In this last video I am bending the 90 degrees.

This was done at the monthly knifemakers/collectors meetings that take place in Little Rock, AR. Chris Montgomery (Who happens to make some nice knives.) took the videos.

I'll have to look into it. The videos are on facebook and are working for me, so I wonder if that has something to do with it?

The vids are working for me. Congrats on your upgrade!

I'm not yet upgraded as the second part of becoming a Journeyman Smith is to take five knives to be judged at either the Blade Show or at the ABS's show in San Antonio. However, I am very happy to have successfully completed the first test.

Congrats Allen. You and your knife performed great. I am sorry for the poor video quality. I wish I had a good camera with me but the phone was all I had. You nailed the heat treatment on your performance test knife.

Some additional information, Allen performed the required cuts and then after the two 2X4 cuts he cut the hanging rope again without even the smallest hesitation from the knife.

The videos aren't showing up for me either but I did see the rope cutting video on FB. Great job. Do you plan to test in San Antonio or on Atlanta? Looking forward to seeing your knives!

Excellent Allen, that knife was biting deep on the 2X4's. Lin told me that you had passed, congratulations. I will see you at A.G.'s show.

Allen's knife sprang back very well with a nice even curve throughout the length. That shows a thorough draw back and good distal taper. His understanding this speaks well of his future work. Great job Allen.

I just got them uploaded to youtube. Hopefully these will work for those of you who are unable to see the above videos.

Great news! How about a photo or two of the knife? Now the REAL work begins, your five presentation knives...

Thanks! Watching your performance test knife making demos at the Branson Hammer-ins were a help.

Thanks for overseeing the test and sharing knowledge so freely!

 Nice job, Allen. Hope to see you soon.

Thanks. If you are at the Knife Event I will be sure to stop by your table. If not I will see you at the Branson Hammer-in.
