Y'all! Had an awesome day yesterday. My buddy and fellow maker, Tyler Aldritch (Black Hole Forge- check him out!!) and I visited ABS journeyman Travis Olsen at his shop in Creswell, OR for an impromptu hammer-in. Travis’ knowledge of steels and applications (in and well beyond knives) is truly astounding. If I’m not mistaken, he’s been working with steel his whole life as a career welder and how he applies his wisdom to his knives is really fun to be around. It was the kind of day where you’re constantly learning and discovering new ideas to test and question in the pursuit of improvement… all ships rising with the tide.
As usual, the open-door graciousness of this community is one of the gems of the industry as a whole. One of his hard users fit my hand like a glove and he wouldn’t let me leave without it. You guys should really check out his work- he’s already passing the tests in his own shop and the quality is there at a more than fair value. Just sayin!
