ABS tests this year?

Hey Joss-

It was good having you down today! Hope you had a safe trip home.

I only know of a handful personally, but I'm sure there will be a bunch.

Js:

Brett Gatlin
Terry Primos
me

Ms:
Jon Christensen
Jason Knight

-Nick-

Ray Kirk - MS (that dagger is spoken for :D)
John Perry - MS (that dagger is spoken for :D)
(Jason Knight's dagger is spoken for too :D).

All spoken for....???!!! 'Bastid' is right! ;)

A very formidable crop of smiths going for it this year.

I am a big fan of John Perry. He is "Mr. Precision", and his work is just too meticulas and clean.

Ditto to Bailey's comments(all except for the spelling error). :p :D

John Perry is one heck of a knifemaker, and should pass this test easily. I can't wait for Little Rock, as he's supposed to be bringing me a little toy. :)

Oh, and the rest of those guys are ok too. I have my doubts about that Wheeler guy though. ;) :p

That Wheeler guy's M.S. dagger is spoken for also :D.

Hey, I laid off the Bowies (knowing Danbo don't want no stinkin' daggers!) :D.

Quite a talented list to say the least.

I am particularly impressed with John Perry. He is a great guy and his level of precision is nothing short of amazing. His take-down pieces are an absolute marvel to admire. He is my pick to win the award for best M.S. piece this year. He mentioned that he had a seriously cool piece coming for one of his test knives, I look forward to seeing it.

For JS this year
Ricardo Vilar from Brazil
Brett Gatlin-Arkansas intends upon it
Terry Primos-LA qualifies but time may be a factor this year

for MS
Jerry Lairson from OK
John Martin also from OK both of these qualify and intend upon going at this point
These guys are from the Uncle Al group that meets in Arkansas

Some of those names are making me consider to come this year. I have decided that the ABS show in Reno gets me 99% of what I'm interested in, and is much less of a commitment in time and travel for me, living in Seattle. But when I think of people like Wheeler, Primos, Vilar, Knight, Christensen.... It makes me wonder. (I don't know John Perry's work.)

One thing that dampen my interest though is to hear that some of those makers have already sold their testing knives. I'm sure there will be something left, of course but still...

I am already looking forward to Atlanta. Lots of new guys stepping up; good new guys. It will be fun. mike

The Journeyman class of 2003 had 22 makers who are all eligible to stand for Mastersmith in June. This does not count all the others who had a journeyman stamp before that! My guess is that there will be over 20 people standing for Mastersmith next June.

If your going to be looking for test knives...It's going to be one hell of a show!
