A couple of months ago I bought a new Buck/Mayo. I was so pleased with this knife that it found a permanent residence in my front right pocket. Unable to deal with the thought of being without one of these little beauties should I (God forbid) lose this one, I purchased another on eBay as a backup. Unfortunately, the lock travel on the second knife was excessive, resulting in the detente ball actually striking the opposite side of the frame on opening. This Monday (8/18) the knife was mailed USPS first class from L.A. back to El Cajon. Today (8/22) I received UPS delivery of a 172 with a perfect lockup from Buck. I don't know what, if any parts of the knife are the same, or if it's a completely new one (it would seem that at the very least, a new blade/tang or a new half frame would be required to fix the problem). Anyway, while it would have been nice to have gotten a perfect knife to begin with, I cannot imagine faster or better customer service from any knife company, maker or dealer. Good job guys! You're a big reason why people buy buck products with confidence.
