Scott passed his Mastersmith Performance test last week at Jason Knight's shop. Two Damascus blades were forged in preparation for the test. They came from the same billet and were heat treated together. The one Scott deemed the test knife was dressed in birds-eye maple, driven to South Carolina, and abused in Jason's shop.

Being a tad OCD, Scott forged the second blade as a production backup - insurance just in case something went wrong during the manufacturing process. The first knife turned out great and passed several in-house tests so Scott set the second one aside and went to visit Jason. Upon his return, Scott decided to transform the second blade into a finished knife.

Thanks, Lydia!

What a great moment for Scott! Wonderful that 'Plan A' worked out so well. :)

I'm impressed but hardly surprised. :D

Jason is the 'go to' MS man this month!

Great job on both knives and of course the passing of his test....gotta have a McGhee MS knife one day! :)

Congrats Scott! I like your knives and hope to check them out in person someday soon.

Awesome, I love reading this type of thing. And previously pondering Guinea Hogs (ie. your website) may have gone some way in explaining why I recently bought my 5y/o daught 4 bantam chicks instead of regular ones!

Congratulations Mr. ESMcGMS!

cheers...Pete

Congrats on the pass. Nice blades and cool wood. I'm a fan of Wenge but don't see it used often.

Congrates Scott. Looking forward to seeing the five.
Thanks Lydia for keeping all of us to date on Scott's journey.

See you both in Atlanta.

Congratulations--love the brunette; that's a very handsome build. An honest knife from its lines to its core.

Couldn't agree more. Nothing wrong with the blonde either, of course, and congratulations on an intimidating step forward.
