Abusing the Steel Heart

Somehow I can't find it in myself to hammer nails or savage bricks and concrete blocks with my Busse, so I am glad you put it through its paces.

For sure, you won't find any steel other than INFI that can stand up to that level of abuse !

Marc, it's ok send them to me and I'll do the dirty work for you ;) Might be ten years down the road, but I'll be glad to hold onto them all the way through to make things easier on you :D

... and in this tag-team corner, Andrew "Hammer Animal" Lynch and the Busse Steel Heart "Wauseon Mauler". Way to go Andrew!! Ya done good!

But you know that SH-E is just laughin' on the inside chucklin' to itself, "Is THAT all ya got???" We get no respect from these nuclear blades. Every time I walk past the knife drawer I hear mine diss'ing me for being such a girlie-mon and grumbling about not getting the level of abuse they need to feel loved. It's hard work being a Busse owner. :D

Andrew,
Didn't anyone ever tell you the right tool for the right job....Ya got way to much tool there ;) I think the Assault Shaker would be more what you need for those nails ;):D

Nice work. :D:D

Maybe you could call it the "Nail Clipper". Instead of the holes in the handle, maybe you could etch a nice file (ala emery board) into the handle. Be a nice Christmas gift for the little lady (that will of course end up in our pockets). Then the standard for testing would be "nail poppin'" sharpness. (How did I come up with this from the post????)

Yours in nuclear cuticles,

poesson

I know what you mean Rok. As SH-E tasted the steel, it was all I could do to keep her from going all out on those nails :D . Blind fury, blind nuclear fury  !

Nevertheless, at the end of the testing, SH-E was quite content. She had tasted what few of her ilk ever get the chance to taste: steel!

Seriously though, this testing had a purpose (not just to have fun :D ). I wanted to see how the SH would handle impacts on hard objects (like steel, rock, cement), which occur accidentally rather often during my use of her. The test results were very positive; I now know for certain that the SH will resist chipping almost entirely(hard chops into steel and full force chops into a brick did not produce them), and that even the rolling is not at all severe. Also, I learned that fixing rolling on INFI is amazingly easy.

In conclusion, if you hit a rock while you're chopping with a Busse, have no fear . The damage will probably be very limited and easily fixable.

I have learned recently that some Busse owners may have issues. . . . . hmmmmmm. . . .What could they possibly be talking about?

:)

Good report Andrew.

It's nice to know that when you head out into the woods, you have the toughest blades available. You'll never know what you will need that all-important knife for.

Andrew,..today I was thinking...I know, I know, it sounds scary! but I happened to be thinking about your test.

Then I ended up rereading one of Cliff Stamps old reviews and about 20 minutes later I was at the butcher block...chopping coat hangers:rolleyes:

My Steel Heart came out with only a few rolls that were easily removed, but now I feel the need to grow a beard and go buy a box of nails:eek:

and it's all your fault!:p

You make it sound like a bad thing :D . It is an interesting moment right before you hit the knife with the hammer the first time (into the metal). It's a "Am I really doing this?!" type of moment. Then I remind myself that I'm using a Busse.

I wouldn't worry too much about hammering the edge into a soft nail, but about chopping into them is a whole 'nother matter, IMO.
btw, I ran out of "sensible" stuff around here to chop with my Basic 9, and today found myself out in the garage hacking up a coat hanger and a couple of nails (they were just 8s, though) "just to see", because of your post.
What's sad is when I originally read your thread, I thought "it's one thing for me to hit a rock by accident, and for Cliff to beat up a test knife, but this nut is intentionally doing this...I would never do that..."
HA. Never underestimate the power of boredom.
No real damage to the 9, and what little there is was barely visible after a quick steel/strop session, but you are a very bad influence.
Good thing I'm going to be real busy the next couple of days...no telling what you'd have gotten me into:D
