I have just watched knifetests.com youtube offerings - on the destructive testing of a "Busse Battle Mistress". These videos are sequential, 10 or 11.

I found it impressive to say the least, the tortures it survived. (go see it if you haven't)

What about the example of Busse? (advertised as "nuclear tough")

Is the genre of "custom" knives much concerned with proving it is "up to the challenge" in these kind of extreme tolerance tests?

(disclaimer: i'm not offering to test any of my knives today) :)

just askin'.

Esav,
Thanks.. I did see that.. which led me to watching the videos. - I'll take a look again at the thread debate.

- however, whether these can be claimed as true "testing" or not, some of the "events" are convincing enough to support the general idea.

Regardless of anyone's opinion of these "tests", is the Custom & Handmade forum the most appropriate venue for discussion of that issue?

It seems to me that, even if a custom knife is being "tested", the knife testing forum would be the best place to discuss it. Maybe I'm wrong.

David

Or "events" ..

Primarily, just asking a question of relavence to custom makers- not trying to stir a brewing pot elsewhere.

How far are custom makers willing to go to make the knives "indestructable", or do they care?

Is Jerry Busse "Going Rogue" ?

You're probably right.. if a mod would like to move it over, please feel free.

David, I don't know about a mod, but I'd like to see it moved. The customs forum, IN MY OPINION, is not the place to debate whether or not a custom knife should be tested to destruction in order to compare results with a test on a production (ie, factory made) knife. In short, and in my view....who cares??

Amen. Apples to pineapples. Customs are carefully crafted with a variety of outcomes in mind: art, convenience, cutting. A few may aspire to indestructibility, but that's hardly what most are designed for.

yes check out that flame war I accidentally unintentionally started, it is quite intese, with guyon posting over 200 times
