I have asked AC to only send me pieces that haven't been cleaned. Here is what some kardas & chakmaks look like untouched for the last 120 years. Also of interest are the kardas marked with the number 7 (it's inverted in the pic)and the chakmak with a 0. I have no idea what these markings mean yet, but they are also on the grips of the 3 oldest kukris offered.

Maybe the #'s are to allow quick matching of sets.

A boxful of all the parts from different suppliers,
all tyhe 7s go together.
 
I think John may have made a typo and meant 6 as the numbers in the pic shows up as a 9. If I'm not mistaken the middle chakmak is the one with the 0-1 on it.
Interesting anyway. I didn't know they had any uncleaned ones.:grumpy:
 
I've seen the listings they have, but no info on the kardas or chakmas. How can you order them? Are there any still available?
 
Call 1-800-883-0300 and ask for item 1-130 on page #27 of the catalog. They were $2 apiece for 10 or more two days ago. These things aren't listed on the website. Happy sanding!
 
YVSA, no typo, the numbers are in Devnagari. Yes, it's the middle chakmak, but others have the zero also.

Numbers=matched sets? Could be. I'm guessing they indicate origin or as you say what kukri scabbard they're to be matched to. I doubt I'll ever find an answer.
