I've just received my Lionsteel M5 and I thought great, I love it. However, on closer inspection I noticed the grind is not symmetrical, please see photos below.
From the top of the grind to the spine there is a an approx difference of 3mm.
What are your thoughts, keep or return?

Tom.

I just checked mine (a 3V version I got from another member)- the grind is pretty perfect.

That model is a great size/design to be used, so if it is something that is going to bother you- return it. I have a knife from another brand that the grind is not as close as yours- it does not affect the use, but it still bugs me that it got past QC as it was for the price I paid.

If you use it you'll find that you will stop fixating on it, especially after a couple sharpenings, especially if it sees woodworking. Nothing makes a knife so used up than being used on wood

OP is talking about the primary grind , not the edge .

That's not ever going away, without a major regrind .

On the logo side , partially over the "Sliepner" , the grind starts much too high .

Very noticeable , if you care .

OK for me in a factory 2nd , and discounted . Otherwise , not acceptable . 👎

That sounds all swell and good, But left "unfixed"--- it will still cut and sever atoms, yes? 😉🙃
And Im aware that's an unpopular opinion

im with Doc on this one. return it. should have been a seconds with a discount.

op, good call on returning it. you're never gonna not notice it even after using and scratched up etc. fine for a user functionally, but ya ain't gonna forget it or get over it. ya pulled the ruler out, so its embedded in your mind. plus you spent your hard earned money and should get one without errors outside of their normal tolerances. im gonna assume that doesnt fall into their tolerances, if it does shame on them.

There's just no excuse for a company like Lionsteel to produce shoddy , poor quality fit and finish goods . They can easily do much better .

If they let this escape the factory, by their lazy lack of adequate QC , what else , perhaps more functional , could be wrong(but less obvious ) with their products ?

Accepting this kind of second rate knife , only encourages further degradation .:thumbsdown:

When most shopping was done in brick and mortar stores , the customer had an opportunity to exam and cherry pick if necessary .

With on-line goods we are dependent on QC . Our only way to meaningfully send a message is to return and give bad reviews . 🫵

QC , More important now than ever , but seems to be getting worse all the time .

I agree. The M5 I have could not have better fit/finish- pretty stellar knife.

Good points

This is rare for LionSteel..... And their customer service is top notch too.......
Not many foul ups get by them and got sent.out..........They or their dealer should take it back no issues..
