access to Wanted to Buy forums

Anyone can post a WTB and read replies to your post. If you want to sell on Bladeforums you need a Gold, Platinum, or Dealer Membership.
 
The WTB forums are marked "private" when I view them in the general Exchange area, though. I can't access the posts.
 
what he means is that anyone start a thread, but they can only see the threads they started

otherwise you could contact people that started threads in there outside of the board and try to sell them stuff
 
Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. Until you get a membership and become entitled to sell knives on Bladeforums, you cannot read other people's WTB posts and sell knives to them. Until then all you have access to is the POST NEW THREAD button.

Click on "Upgrade your forums experience, and help support this site" at the top of the page for membership details.
 
Yeah, but this is the Wanted to Buy forum. I want to... wait for it... buy. So presumably upgrading my membership won't make any difference.

I can start a thread, Gold + members can see it and post offers. I can see the offers; correct?
 
That is correct. They had non-paying members cruising the Want to Buy section, finding someone who wanted to buy a knife they had, and contacting the poster to sell them the knife. It was a loophole to get away with selling knives without buying a membership that is required to sell knives here.
 
Groovy. I understand management is uptight about people selling things - whatever. I have nothing to sell, so we'll get along just fine. :)

It has nothing to do with management being "uptight". It's about protecting to those who support the forum from freeloaders. Those who chose not to support the forum get squat and deservedly so. No pay, no play. Plain and simple.
 
If you are wanting to buy a knife then you go to the for sale forums. That is where the knives that are for sale are listed. The people posting threads in the wanted to buy forums are, just like you, looking to purchase knives. If you are interested in purchasing, why would you go to a thread where the poster is saying something like, "If you have a mint Spyderco Manix that you would like to sell, I am interested."?
 
Tanto5, you don't like it here, you can leave. Otherwise, the bills don't pay themselves. If you don't like how we offset the site costs, you can pony up for a paying membership without selling.
