Accidental Cuts

It’s hard to type this with a thumb wrapped in bandaids 🤣.

I’ve had my share of “ooops. Probably shouldn’t have done that.” As I’m sure there’s a few here who have as well.

Most recent, 10 mins ago. I have a little QSP Canary. Got tired of the black and yellow scales. Thought a paracord wrap would be fun! I’ve actually never done one. I’ve had knives with them before. But they came that way. So I take the scales off. Kind of brainstorm what I want to do, and just dive in.

I go to cinch it down. I thought I was grabbing the spine of the blade… nope. Nice cut. Luckily not too bad. Very straight, very clean. Easy to deal with (I do have medical knowledge and training) but stupid moment none the less. Should have probably taped the blade off with painters tape or something.

At least it’s looking good so far!

Any “Doh!” Moments or stories?

Gave myself countless cuts on my first finger knuckles while whittling as a kid, a nice scar on the back of my hand with my ZT0620.

The day I bought my SOG PE2 (since passed along since I had to move to a place that at the time it would not be a viable carry piece) I was messing around with it, as it was at that point the easiest opening knife I'd ever handled. Then I managed to close it on my finger, just the serrated part, and not a major cut , but that day I found out a buddy's sensitivity to other people bleeding. All I had to say was "oh.... do you have some paper towel and tape?" and he replied with "Cupboard above the sink, don't show me, I need to sit down." Fun times! He knew exactly what I had done (well, he might have thought I'd cut my finger off, but turns out, wouldn't have mattered, he did not do other people's blood)

I'll never understand why I still reach my hand up into a hot manifold to replace spark plugs ~ I know I'm going to get burned ~ But I keep doing it ..

I have had a few blades slip and just had to let them drop cause my feet were coming up to fast .

I sometimes drink when I’m sharpening knives. Don’t do that. Especially when you drop them and attempt to catch them. DOH!

I'm guilty of watching a lot of knife reviews on YouTube. Quite often, the reviewers are wearing band aids. I laugh because I usually have one or two also.

Had a few, saw my knuckle bone. Surprisingly few while I worked at a knife factory in assembly.
Yup. I’ve worked in kitchens most my life. Started at a fast food joint. Worked my way up to better kitchens. Spend some years as Pitmaster at a local BBQ joint. I think I’ve cut myself MAYBE 3 times in the kitchen. Surprisingly less than just playing around or not paying attention.

I was a meat cutter in various grocery stores for 27 years. I have cut myself more times than I can remember. Super Glue and Band-Aids were an essential part of our first aid kit. A dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp knife.

I get myself a lttle now and again. Reminders.

But I know a guy that is a carpenter. Mowed his yard and didn't realize that he had run over a circular saw blade around his shop.

Miraculously, it passed unaffected by the mower blade and laid up flat on the bottom side of the push mower deck, held by wind force. He finished and rolled it to his driveway. He heard a noise and tipped up the mower carefully while it was running.

All Final Destination style. The circular saw blade fell into the mower blade. Shot out hot and cut his leg off just above the ankle.

I have pics immediately after and after they reattached it.

Still can't believe it all these years later. o_O

I'd have a lot fewer scars if I'd learn to listen to me. Nine times out of ten, I think "I'm going to cut myself if I keep this up" about ten seconds before I slip and cut myself.

I take some comfort in the fact that I've cut myself way more times with stuff other than knives.
