I've been mostly lurking and liking. You guys have some really nice knives and I'm a bit embarrassed to call myself any kind of knife collector after seeing some of YOUR collections but I figured I'd dive right in anyway.
I work as a power line inspector for a well known utility company. I found these knives over the years. The Spyderco is an H-1. I found it in the mud near a padmount transformer. I bought the sheath separately. I can't remember where I found the Swiss Army knife. It's a Victorinox Officier Suisse. I found the Leatherman Rebar in a turn out on the highway. I guess someone got out of their car and dropped it but didn't notice. I bought the sheath separately.
These are some of my work knives. As I said, I inspect the power lines and where I live there is a LOT of forest areas where it takes a very long time to get to. We have black bear, mountain lions, lynx, dogs and aggressive humans. I have to go way out into the bush as I inspect every single pole no matter the terrain. I carry a lot of things including bear spray but I keep the K-Bar strapped to my leg in a K-Bar sheath. Will it save me during an attack by a sow protecting her cubs? Probably not but SOME chance is better than NO chance, lol. The "Lineman" knife is a novelty item. It's made in China and it lives in a box in a drawer. It was given as a thank you gift by the company, lol. The top Klein is one of my skinning knives. I can't find the silver gray one or the black plastic handled ones. Probably lost. Grrr! The bottom Klein knife is one I found when i was climbing a pole in San Rafael, CA about 12 years ago. It was laying on a crossarm. Someone forgot it. Probably an apprentice, lol. It had been there for a LONG time and was rusted and couldn't be opened. The one side of the handle was bleached white. I spend days with WD-40, a file, a wire brush disk in a drill, sandpaper, steel wool and metal polish to remove almost all of the rust. It was a company issued knife back in the day and had a hawk nose blade just like the one above it but it was sharpened and sharpened over the years and this is what the blade looks like now.
I was going to say these are my EDC knives but that wouldn't be true. Mostly, I carry a different Klein skinning knife that has a black plastic handle. It's really light, thin and opens quickly and it's what I have in my pocket while I'm at work. (I wish I could find it and it's brother.) The top knife is one I bought in Paris, France. It's a Laguiole. Weighs 84 grams. Cost me the equivalent of $90 in 2017. That one sits in a drawer. I like it very much but it doesn't open quickly and it's a bit heavy. I've never cut anything with it. The Victorinox is one I picked up in Sydney AU. Weighs 72 grams. I carried it around for a long time before retiring it. Good knife. The next one is a ZT 0450 Carbon Fiber. It's the lightest of the bunch at 68 grams. It's a current EDC when I'm not at work and checks all of the boxes being thin, lightweight, blade just the right length, sharp and quality built. The Kershaw 1470 is a beast at 111 grams. I carried it for awhile but it was too heavy and didn't hold an edge very well. The Kershaw 1620DAMCKT is a cool knife that I carry if I'm wearing a suit. It's classy, thin, holds an edge, opens quickly and is small. But it weighs 84 grams, too.
And lastly, this is a knife my father gave me. He was a delegate to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers at the IBEW Centennial Convention in St. Louis in 1991. He bought all three of us boys one (we're all linemen) but I'm the only one of us who has opened his less than 10 times, never cut anything with it and never sharpened it. It lives in a box, too. It was made by Uitica and probably isn't a very high quality knife but it means a lot to me. It's going to go to one of my sons.
Well, that's it for now. I look forward to seeing more of y'alls cool knives!
