I've been using an Accusharp knife sharpener at the referal of several friends. I'll admit it seems to do one heckuva job.

However, I've noticed in various E-Mails that Spyderco Sharpmaker is often mentioned.

Which is better? Which sharpener do you recommend?

I have never heard of the Accusharp knife sharpener. Folks here RAVE about the Spyderco Sharpmaker 204. It's by far the most popular simple, and cost effective sharpening system around. Of course, you could just learn to sharpen freehand if you practice daily for a few months

I just looked up your Accusharp thing on the web. Throw it away. Never use it on a good knife again. Those things take too much metal off, and produce a coarse edge that you can not adjust.

With the sharpmaker, you can apply razor sharp edges that are polished for push cuts, or very aggressive and grippy for slicing. Please don't use something like the Accusharp knifewrecker on your new Kershaw Ricochet
