been playing with fire :D again. experimented with a 40/60 blend of acetone and methyl hydrate (marine stove alky fuel) in a simple coffee can burner. The idea of using acetone in the methyl hydrate is to "bump" up the flammability factor of the alchohol. This is NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES to be used in a PRESSURIZED alcohol stove!!! open alky burners only

evaps a lot FASTER once heated up and burns a hell of a lot hotter. Burns with a mixed yellow and blue flame. 2oz of the mixed fuel boiled 1 liter cold water in a billy can in around 2 minutes

note: I am not responsible for any fires, explosions, injury, structural damage, death etc should you try this. I have extensive experience with flammable liquids and their hazards, and fire suppression experience. If you choose to try this, you do so at your own risk. Govern yourself Accordingly

EDIT: also experimenting with a two stage alky burner.....the lower burn chamber (filled with methyl hydrate) superheats the upper burn chamber (filled with more methyl hydrate).

You should really check out backpackinglight.com. They did a three part article on ultralight fuels. It was VERY indepth. I'm sure they are member articles, but you'll get much more feedback and information about this type of thing there. A much larger percentage of the peeps there have long term experience with these fuels and stove types.

I use denatured alcohol (S-L-X). And it seems to work the best in all of my alcohol stoves. I've used some lab grade ethynol, but had poor results with it. Some of the fuels vary from region to region.
