Acid Etch a Knife!!

Ok so i have a gerber prodigy and i want to acid etch the blade. it has the black coating on it. is the best way to remove the coating is to just sand it clean or is there another process? And when the coating is removed and i acid etch it is the blade still rush protected? One more question, so i used a sacrifice exact o blade to see what it would look like, and it was ok i just didnt like how dark the etch came out, any suggestions?( blade was only in there for a few minutes)

Fairly, because of the steel itself being quite stain resistant.

For paint stripper to work it would depend on the type of coating. I would suggest that you just sand it. I've seen some folks use PCB Etching solution to soak the blade in to remove the finish, but I wouldn't risk it. Sanding is the best option in my opinion.
