Acid Etch Damascus Blade?

I have a AG Russell Gentlemen knife with a Damascus blade. The blade has little definition, almost none on one side. I have some muriatic acid; would it help bring out the patten if I brushed the acid on the blade for a few minutes, then washed it off. If so, how long should I leave it on; other suggestions welcomed.

Thanks,
Don

in the maker's forum, or better yet, call A.G. and ask him to take a look at it.

Muriatic might not be the best match for the steel.

Unless you know what you are doing, it would be best to get a knifemaker to etch the blade for you. Muriatic acid is very corrosive and will damage other parts of the knife (such as bolsters, guards and handle material). You have to make sure that only the blade ends up in the acid.

Thanks for the post. I've had the little knife for years and like it; the lack of patten never brothered me until I messed up and joined this forum and see the pics you guys post of Damascus blades.

You want to use ferric chloride diluted with distilled water and like said, have a knife maker who works in damascus do it.
