So as the title says, what other things aside from nail polish can I use as a resistant when acid etching? I want to get really accurate results and have been using stencils for lettering but could I dip the blade in wax, etch out a design in the wax and soak in f.c.

That's exactly how a traditional art etching is done (as far as I know) so I would guess that it should work fine on a knife.

We used wax in high school shop class as an etch resist 50 years ago. I know guys that have used magic marker as an etch resist when making one of a kind circuit boards using ferric chloride to etch copper covered G10.

Ok somive got a few options, I'm really new at this and I'm really interested in it,I just finished a basic etch in aluminium using a sticker cut out and nail polish. Fosrst I soaked it it salt and vinegar then f.c and it left a much better etch than f.c alone

Not sure if it would work for acid etching, but I use vinyl and a vinyl cutter for a resist when electro-etching.
