First off I'm not a photographer and these were taken with my iphone, sorry 'bout that, it's currently the best I can do.

I just finished this up, I've wanted to do this long before I even had the knife. The blade was done with PCB etchant, there is a lock bar cutout I dremeled and then the shiny benchmade clip with butterfly ground off of course (short originalspaceman clip should be here any day).

I have a few more of these planned in the near future however this is my only M4 blade. I'm going to try it on a carbon opinel and a couple D2 Benchmades as soon as I have time.

Thanks to d.r.h. for the knife and to professor for the detailed how-to.

Here are a few progress pic's before the blade was all the way cleaned. Also a kershaw clip I threw in just to see what to expect with stainless. It's quite a bit darker, this was a standard (but bent 180*) kershaw satin clip.

Here's a few more I've done.

I like the GB. Seem darks. I might have to do one some day. Maybe a good excuse to get a D2 blade.

My first stainless- AUS-8A on my ontario utilitac

Notice I left the tips of the thumb studs satin.

Next up is my D2 710.

That looks great man, did you do the screws too (on the M2XL)?

What's up with the grip, did you do the axis lock button and thumb studs? I'd like to on my 710 but I didn't know how well it'd work on the stainless, I'm planning on cerakoting the lock bar, studs and stand off's next time I have something else to do in black (my shop lets me add in small parts for free as long as I do the prep).

Nice work, CK! If you want a little bit of contrast on the edges of the spine, blade hole, and grind lines, try the 600+ grit wet/dry sandpaper.

Love to see folks customizing their blades!

Thanks for the tip proff, I'll probably do that on the 710. I still have to polish the liners and coat the hardware/lock too so it's not done yet.

So funny story about the UT2, I decided to see what happened when I polished the etched finish. I thought I figured out an awesome new finish till I realized the look was cause compound built up on the blade and made it look flat black. Was disappointed when it washed right off...
