Well, my Acies2 just came today, without warning (AG Russell doesn't give you tracking info). Like the last knife I ordered from them, it came in a padded envelope, meaning the box was crushed again, but the knife was well protected in some bubble wrap. The f&f is quite good. The blade is ground really nicely, it's very centered, and very sharp. There is some black residue on the tang, but that should clean up easily with a q-tip. The handle scales have no apparent imperfections (I might prefer a bead-blast finish, but that's ok). I like the two screw construction, with the monster stop pin being the only other pillar.

The pocket clip is as high and shiny as everyone has reported. I will try some modifications on it when I get the chance. I will also probably look into buying replacement screws that are polished.

I could have done without the left side thumbstud and corresponding lockbar cutout, but I understand the reasons why it's there.

The lockup is about 40% with no stick. It is not particularly strong, and I understand the presence of the over-extending stop. There is some small amount of lock-flex (lock rock?, not play or looseness), this is probably from the very thin lockbar remaining at the relief cutout. It is a very small amount of flex and the lock doesn't disengage, but you can just feel the tang coming off of the stop pin a hair. It's not that big a deal, but it's a little surprising.

The thumb stud is vicious. I never though that the skin at the tip of my thumb was all that delicate, but it's being chewed up by the thumbstud, and I still can't get it to deploy with just my thumb. I think the combination of pressing the blade further into the detent and the direction the thumbstud ramp is facing is making it difficult. I wish I could turn the ramp in towards the handle more. When it fails to deploy and my thumb slips accross the ramp, it slices my skin up. I see all these videos online of people shooting the blade out with a hint of pressure from their thumb, but I can't figure it out. I really hope this eases up or I figure out a better way of opening it, or this might be a deal breaker for me.

Overall, a really nice knife. I'm not sure it's worth quite as much as AG Russell charges for it, but I'd say quality/design-wise it falls between the Alias2 and the Sebenza, so it's price isn't that much higher than what I might suggest.

I've had one for a while now, and I absolutely love it (along with my full-sized Acies). Quality, fit and finish is every bit as good as my small classic Sebenza.

I haven't felt or noticed any lock flex or rock. Mine started at 40% and is still there after a lot of use. I wouldn't concern yourself with it as AG's warranty is if you ever become unhappy with the knife, send it back. That might be 3 months for some, or 10 years for others.

As for your thumb being chewed up, you're doing it wrong! :p Get your thumbnail behind the stud and give it a push up, not out. Same motion you would use to flip a coin. I'll bet it will work 100% doing it that way.

Thanks for the advice. AG's warranty/guarantee is what made me really comfortable with shelling out for this knife.

The coin flip technique has slightly better success, but I'm ripping up my thumbnail on misfires rather than my skin, which I guess is preferable. I'll continue practicing. I'm sort of curious though why the same thumbstud on the gentleman's folder is pointed inwards more.

I don't own one, but iirc, mr. russell has said that you should push parallel with the frame, and not "out", like most. I think this is why the stud is angled the way it is...?

I have been very curious about some of the A.G. Russell folders Im glad to hear you are enjoying the acies2 its one of the knives Im interested in. the other knives I was looking at are the skorpion and the gentlemens framelock. I rarely see anyone talk about them which has me even more curious to whether or not they are worth picking. the designs are great but im wondering how the F/F is on the china made models.

I'm getting marginably better at opening it. Pushing up and not out helps a little, and using my thumbnail does too, although I'm gonna need a manicure:p

I'm really tempted to get the Gentleman's Frame Lock. It looks very similar to the Acies2 with VG-10 steel, for only $125. It could be my beater ti frame lock...:D

yeah 125 for a vg-10 Ti framelock knife is a really great price I would totally pick one up if I could find a review on it :)

You want a review? Here it is: Buy it, you won't regret it. And for some strange reason you don't like it, send it back. AG will gladly refund your money.

(But I'll bet you won't want to send it back...:D)

lol short, sweet and to the point :D how is the F/F from china?

Not bad at all. Worthy of the price tag. You have to remember these are made for AG by another company that owns plants in China. Their QC is quite high.

As for this knife, its a great slicer. The VG-10 came incredibly sharp. Blade centered, no hot spots on the handle and very smooth opening.

awesome sounds like I will definitely have to get one :)

A combination of opening the knife a hundred times and oiling the pivot and detent ball has broken in the action of the knife a bit. I can open the knife without too much trouble now, but the detent seems almost too weak now, which is a pretty drastic change from yesterday afternoon.

The action also isn't all that smooth. The more open the blade gets as it rotates, the tighter the pivot seems, which is strange since the pivot barrel is fixed, so the opening action shouldn't tighten the pivot screw.

I'm going to give the knife a couple more days of fiddling, and if it still has issues, I'll probably request a replacement... along with the Gentleman's Frame Lock that I'll most likely order:D
