I own a Fox 40 (Classic) that I wanted to get for my kids - but I let them blow it for a day - and realized they could barely make it sound.
Called Fox and asked if their Micro was better for kids - the woman who answered the phone was very knowledgable but said she thought it would not be any better.
I ordered the ACR WW-3 (about 3 bucks a whistle) off e-bay after calling ACR. The woman who answered the phone thought it would be a good whistle for kids.
Man was she right. My 3 year old (barely three and little dude) can just about crack my ear drums with it with little effort (of course it has Skittle slobber all over it now).
I am VERY happy with this little whistle and could recommend it for those who have little ones they want to go hiking with.

I plan on getting them little lanyards (or making them) so that when we go hiking they have them on them at all times.
