Dear BF ( BladeForums!)

I am new to this - in fact new to most things - so do you have a list of terminology used. I get quickly lost in the SiC, ZDP, DMT, LFQ and CDR's and all the rest of the specialist terms.
I tried to find it through search with no luck.
It may be an idea to start one.
It would certainly help those people new to Blade and probably help the experts who are too embarrassed to ask!

Welcome to the forums. Context is everything, Google will also be a valuable asset in this search, especially for those embarrassed to ask. They need not announce they are googling terms, they can simply do it and be done with it. If you can manage to stick around and read through posts about the topics you find interesting exposure will increase understanding. It takes time.

A basic list of internet abbreviations would fill a small book. Even a list of knife abbreviations and terminology would take pages.

I hear your frustration. I wish as well.

Using acronyms is a timesaver for the experienced in that particular area, but at the expense of clarity for many others. It takes a couple of extra seconds to spell out the first usage (in caps) of an acronym, and then use it later.

A gazillion manufacturers, and each has their product letters. It's especially frustrating on the Exchange. I'm certain I've passed by many interesting deals, because the seller assumed everyone knew what the heck he was talking about.

Now I'm grousing. LOL! ;)

Yep it is a tug of war between obvious cost/benefit of clarity and the feeling of a special interest group. It is a bit of a straw man to say it would take a book size to put them all up. First - every time that a term had to be explained it could have been added to the wiki or dictionary - and that would be last time anyone would have to do it. Secondly there are gradual levels - we do not need to know the lot immediately.
But, who am I.

Common language (acronyms) becomes so with time and experience. Enjoy the forums, read up, participate, pull up a seat and put your feet up.

You wanna compile and maintain it? And deal with all the people who disagree with the definitions included in it? And the all people who want their own stuff included in it? No doubt the mod staff has other stuff to deal with.

Encounter an acronym or lingo that's unfamiliar? GIYF.

Good Point

It's true. Fairly new here myself ... researched to my best the acronym question and found an epic undertaking ... as well as the understanding that saturating yourself in the forum, learning the nuances, digging and learning ... are an individual's responsibility and mark of such knowledge as you have attained. BTW (By the way :)) there is also a tad of attitude that one must earn access to the acronym world of BF. Hey, I am working on it ;)

Or come across an acronym that you aren't familiar with and ask in the thread. If I know I'll tell you, that simple. Everybody learns differently, and there is no harm in asking!!

My dyslexic like tendencies make it hard for me at times, part of the reason I don't venture toward Busse knives, too many acronyms, too little time. I feel similar about using knife pattern numbers to describe the knives, I respond to model names not numbers. A GEC 72 means little to me, buy a GEC Esquire is much easier for me to remember. But hey, I stay and try to remember, look up when I can, or gloss over what I don't know if I have little time to ask/research. It's all part of the wide mix that is the best website in the world.

EDC, Every Day Carry. "Usually" A folder of 3-4" of blade length. Or it could be? What ever kind of knife you carry every day. Or it could be? Next persons turn for a definition of EDC.

Lets move this to Whine & Cheese and I'll give you a long list of critically important acronyms. :p

No, no ... throw me into the briar patch, but not w&c ...

Marcinek

GIYF Oh, boy. My learning curve is straight up ... and here comes another acronym with which I am unfamiliar. I can put so many phrases together with these initials ... yet it contains a clue in the oft-used letter F. Am I old enough to know? I assure you that I am way beyond old enough to know. May I ask that you put word to acronym?
