The first action thread was closed because of petty arguments.

I was thoroughly enjoying the previous thread and think the action of a knife is important. I really appreciate knives with excellent actions. The action of a folding knife is just as valid as an aspect of a knife as the blade, handle, materials etc. primarily because all folding knives open, then close. How well they perform in that aspect varies in importance to each individual just as every other aspect of a knife varies in importance to each individual. Maybe some only purchase knives with great action, others only purchase knives in super steels and everything in between. To each their own. So if action isn’t important to you then carry on but I’d like to hear everyone’s opinions on washers, bearings and those knives that actions they love and I think the first one was a worthy thread and should be carried on.

The action on the para 2&3 were the first that really blew me away. I generally prefer pb washers then bearings but have nothing against bearings. I just feel bearings should be smooth but am more impressed when washers perform almost as well or better than bearings.

I’m currently deep in the Les George rabbit hole. The action on his knives are like nothing I’ve ever come across. All his knives are consistently hydraulically smooth that fly open with the flick of a thumb and drop shut with the flick of a wrist. I’ve handled quite a few of high end knives and haven’t come across anything similar (not necessarily better or worse). All of his knives are on pb washers except for his flippers. I have both and still prefer the washers. Don’t know how he does it but I love em. The action on his button lock is amazing and a must try.

I wouldn't do what you are doing now, last thread closed for a reason that the mods decided was worthy, and you trying to circumvent this way I don't believe will end well.
I don’t think it was closed by a mod but rather the op

Also curious to hear ways y’all improve actions by cleaning, lubricants etc.

Ps: I think to properly judge the movement of a knife the pivot should be properly adjusted so there is no lateral blade play. Otherwise it’s like cheating 😜

It was closed by a mod with the concurrence of the OP, in fact.

You're taking this discussion in a direction suited best for M,T & E...and it will be moved there for any further exploration.

I actually avoid ball bearing folders. I prefer pb washers, so i don't have to worry about grit, food etc too much.
When I take apart a knife to clean and lubricate, I do try to lock in the sweet spot pivot tightness with a thread locker and I try to use the right lubricant to achieve a good enough action.
But i don't fidget so I don't need perfection. I also don't really flick the blade open, I open it in a controlled way.
Because I want to make good, safe cuts, I will err on the side of over-tightening to avoid blade play rather than go for drop-shuttiness.
