After upgrading to Vista, this PC warns me about Active X being used on certain forums within this site. The warnings are prompted when I go into the whine & cheeze for example.

Has this active X always been there, or is there something going on in this PC. By the way, this machine has been running all by itself since the Vista upgrade. Eventhough it is a pentium 4 dual processor with a big hrd drive and 100 megs of Ram, it runs like crap, and I am ready to toss it

get avant browser and disable active x. i dont get spyware on my pc since i disable active x, java applets and scripts. i can run ad aware or spybot and both come up clean each time. it also has an ad blocker that also notifies you when an ad has been blocked. when i log into bladeforums the only thing i have enabled is scripts and i disable popup blocker so the pm notice will pop up when i get a pm.

100 MB of RAM is not nearly enough to run Vista efficiently. 2 gigs is considered the realistic minimum for Home Premium/Business/Ultimate. 1 gig for Home Basic.

Sorry I am not good with computer technicals, but I found out that this PC has a full gigabite of ram.

I am going off line now but will start a thread about this in W&C. Right now this machine is fully hacked, there is someone inside it right now changing settings. Firewalls and antiviruses are off. DVD drives have been disabled and the only program that still works is the internet connection.

There is alot of traffic going in and out of my DSL connection so I won't waste too much time here, as I do not know what my PC is being used for. So bye for now folks!

Your computer runs like crap because it's probably chock full of malware/viruses.

It is probably being used to infect other peoples computers, or to find other computers that are as vulnerable as yours was and is probably sending viruses to everyone you contact. Your personal info may have been compromised, so watch your bank/credit card statements.

Unplug your cable from the internet, reset your system to it's default state and run a reputable antivirus such as norton , mcaffee or trendmicro.
If they've filled your machine with bugs, you may have to reformat your HD as they will tend to hide in system restore. It is probably your best bet.

Educate yourself or make friends with a compie tech.

Use a reputable antivirus and make sure it is on at all times.
Contact your ISP, maybe they can trace this guy thru their servers.

you might not be hacked at all. you might have just picked up a rogue malware program posing as your antivirus, and it runs scripts and trojans to mess with your settings. I had the XP version of it, and it erased my restore points and screwed with my registry and settings.

If you had XP, there is a progam that would fix it no sweat. I don't think there is one for vista.

One other program that realy works wonders for cleaning up junk files and registry errors is CCleaner.

http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

it cleared up 3 gigs of junk files and over 800 registry errors on my PC. Just run both scans on their default settings. (edit: not an anti spyware and virus program, it just clears out junk to make your computer run faster. you might need to create a restore point before running)
