Do any of you have weights for the khukuris you own and have weighed yourself? I am particularly interested in Himalayan Imports 15" and 16 1/2" Chiruwa AngKhola Khukuri. Thanks, Val

Tirtha was back awhile ago, not sure if he's still there now or not.

CAK's can vary greatly in weight depending on the kami and just what they do that day.

You can certainly request one on the lighter side or heavier side to fit your wants.

I keep meaning to pick up a decent scale to weigh mine. I try to write down what auntie post them at but usually forget to do it.

I have been trying to tag them with the model and kami so at least I got that.

Thanks for the info.

Do spine thicknesses vary much within the same model and length, or just weight?

Spine thickness and weight can vary GREATLY from kami to kami, even in the same blade model. I have seen a few light weight AK's that were almost an ounce per inch, I have seen others that were beasts! Another good example are my Dui Chirra's... I have a Purna Kami Dui Chirra that is a gorgeous beast @ 18inches 34 ounces. Yet I have a Thamar Dui Chirra that is 18inches and a very light 22 ounces. It all depends on the kami that makes it. I also have a beefy Kobra that is as thick as an AK by Sher Kami. Most Kobra's have a 3/8 or less spine thickness, yet my Sher Kobra is 20in 32oz... The spine is well over 3/8. Another good example is my Chhetri style Thamar piece. From the side profile it looks like a 40oz plus kukri... It is 22inch long yet it only has a 1/4 inch spine, it only weights 24oz!!! I was amazed he could keep the think nice and straight after heat treatment with such a thin blade.

Weights listed on the website are merely hints at what you might receive. You can rest assured that you will get a work of art no matter what you order. I would check out the deals of the day for the lighter ones. They just sold a Thamar Light Weight kukri that was around 20 oz... it was rather long too.

Thanks. Is there a specific "deal of the day" link? If so, I haven't been able to find it. Is it really posted every day?

It just pops up here like a normal thread. If you see a post by Yangdu, it's generally a DOD.
Could happen any time of the day or even evening, weekends, could be anytime.

Like Bawanna said, the DOTD's pop up almost daily. The weekends are hit or miss, but Yangdu post them pretty much everyday. There might be a day in the week when there isn't one... Most are amazing deals on one off items. Just look for posts from Yangdu.

DOTD's are the best way to go, you see the knife and know it's specs before you commit. Weight range is really based on the Kami that made it, Thamar tend's to make lighter blades with a more "historical" feel to them, Purna makes blades a bit heftier but never anything too heavy, Dhan makes a great balance in between the two. The only HI knives I've bought have been from DOTD's and I've not been disappointed yet, even ordered a blem one time but couldn't find the darned blem for the life of me. It's a great chance to get a fantastic knife for WAAAAY less than what they "retail" for. I hope you find the one you're looking for!
