Anyone have either of these vehicles? I test drove both today and was very happy with both, although for different reasons. The MDX was nice and actually fairly sporty for a midsize SUV, and the RDX while a bit smaller than the MDX had very tight handling, sporty acceleration, and a nice throaty growl especially when the turbo opens up.

I like both for different reasons, at this point in time I am wavering as to which. Totally ignoring price etc, do any of you have any experience with either? If so, please share

In my area, roughly 25-28k will net you either an MDX with technology package and it will be probably a 2007 or 2008 with between 40-50k miles on it, or a 2008-2009 RDX with technology package (also AWD, which is standard on the mdx but not the rdx) and probably 25-40k miles.

So it's sort of...do I want a slightly older (but still latest "generation") MDX with slightly more miles, or do I want a slightly newer, slightly less RDX?

Side by side I was actually impressed with the size of the RDX -- it's certainly a smaller SUV but it's very similar to the MDX in size. Interior wise they seem to have done it smarter with the MDX for sure, there is quite a bit more room. The RDX however is going to end up being cheaper and a bit sportier....and while I prefer the larger SUV, I can appreciate the sportiness (albeit not much better MPG due to turbo charger) of the RDX as it is certainly going to be more fun to drive. However, the MDX will be more comfortable for sure.

Decisions decisions.

less miles same money similar vehicle

I have no idea what you mean lol.

But if you're saying take the RDX because it's cheaper and will have less miles than the MDX but be similar, you're right in all those respects.

My major hangup is that the MDX is far larger on the inside and offers significantly more cargo capacity, and I have myself a wife and two large dogs (plus kids soon). Not to mention I'm 6'3" so leg space is a premium for me.

MDX is my recommendation. With kids in the plan I would go with the larger of the two.

I don't follow Acura models closely, but I'd consider one of these:

:p

p.s. This should be in Gadgets and Gear. ;)

My parents have a mdx and my in-laws have a honda pilot. Both are very nice. You may be able to find a pilot for less $. With honda or acura you can't go wrong. I have a 94 accord with 322,000 and she purrs like a kitten.

My brother has a 2001 MDX and my dad has a 2007 RDX.

They are both exceptional vehicles. But if I were to compare a 2007 MDX to a 2007 RDX, I'd choose the MDX.

Reason is, the MDX drives so well, so easily, why not have the extra size? There isn't a very large mileage penalty, and it is a much bigger vehicle.

Just get the ZDX. I personally like the lines of the ZDX better. Sporty look, for such a roomy SUV.

I did not find it roomy whatsoever -- to me, I would hesitate to even call it an SUV. I literally almost could not fit in the back seat...while I am tall, I felt even a four door sedan would have better rear seats.

Yeah, the turbo on the RDX tends to hurt it's mileage and it's power is a little lackluster until that turbo kicks in. The newer gen RDX (2007 and on) are even better than the older gen.
