I was scoping out TAD's site the other day and saw that they had a 1st generation AD which was unused and new condition! It has black G-10 scales w/bead blast finish and IWB sheath. I could not resist and ordered it right away! I received it today and it is one cool knife!!! I see what you guys that already own this knife mean now.

I recently also received one of their new flat ground MFS. One thing though-the MFS is much sharper. The AD has the factory edge and has not been used or sharpened, same with the MFS. I also had an older model BG which also did not have a razor sharp edge as it came from Strider.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining or anything (as I said the AD is really cool). I,m wondering if the older Striders were not ground as sharp as the new ones or has their edge geometry changed over the years, etc.?

Please shed a light on this for me:cool:

Thanks,

Chris

If it is an older knife, chances are that it has a thicker edge.
Feel free to send it in for a face lift.

Dear Chris:

You now own Strider's greatest knife. I've been yelling about the AD on all the forums. As a concealable, a back-up, or just an out-front "cut the mofo", there is none better. Now, can you post a PICTURE of the one you bought with the handles? I and all of your Strider brothers would like to see it. Also, print your full address, exact description of where you store the knife and hours when police patrols are lightest in your neighborhood.

Congratulations on a fine purchase!

Kshurika,

I don't think we basic members can post pictures or maybe I just couldn't figure out how. But please check out Triple Aught Design's site which has a great pic of the knife. It is the one listed as AD-1. Check it out and let me know what you think!

An address and patrol schedule will not help you guys as the AD has been on my side constantly!! Nobody's getting this one away from me! Exact location - right now under an untucked shirt - strong side draw.

Kshurika, is your AD a first generation model or a later one? What are your carry methods? Also, I have the sheath which consist of a nylon cover over a kydex insert. Do you know if this will hold the knife inverted for extended periods?

As you know, the AD is really fast with a great ergonomic design and just downright cool!

Thanks,

Chris

Chris,
I would not carry your AD inverted in that sheath. That is the same sheath that I carried the infamous "dropped SA" that gave me this forum name. It wasn't carried inverted and still managed to come out and leave the helo. If you really want to use it daily, I'd send it back to Strider to have them make another sheath that is a little more up to spec. Then keep the one you have as part of the original set. That way you get the best of both worlds.

Ryan, buddy, just got back from that Antique gunshow in town, had some sweet rifles.

Chris and Kshurika, this is what you are looking for:

Take care guys, and congrats Chris, I was thinking of buying it and went back and it was sold.

The oldies sure are the goodies. That knife design looks to be drastically different from the one now. Great score. Enjoy it. I love the hand made filing on the spine. I wish all mine had it that way. It adds something special to your knife. Almost like it has a little personalization just for you. I won't own any more Striders without the hand file work. Look out Mick/Duane you are in for some extra work. Maybe when I become a dealer, I'll specialise in these extra special goodies. That is if I'm found worthy. I'm told that there is an intense screening process that I have to pass. Duane wanted to give me a prostate exam, but I refused. Was that a bad idea if I plan to sell their stuff post military?:D

Reed,

Thanks a lot for posting that pic. I know the basics when working on the computer but sometimes, for me, when it gets fancy I need FM!

Knifebomber,

I wondered where that name came from. A shame to loose a good knife that way. I hope no friendlies were below when it went out the helo! I haven't seen the new model AD in person but the pics of the new ones do look different from this 1st generation model and I couldn't agree more, as you said - "the oldies sure are the goodies"! I like this one more than the new AD based on the pics I've seen. Its got a great curve for slashing but not so much so that penetration is sacrificed - quite the opposite, the point looks like a great penetrator to the maxx. The filing on the spine is really cool and get this, the same type filing is on the back of the handle and the filing there extends onto the G-10 scales, going from side to side of the knife. I really like this knife a lot and it's sure to be a constant companion for a long time.

I just wrote a long description of two cheap modes of shoulder-carry for your AD-1 and a suggestion for Strider making you a harness. But I got disconnected. EARTHLINK SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a piss-poor excuse for an ISP, run by addle-brained Scientologists. And if anyone out there is a Scientologist, well, you, Earthlink, and John Travolta all SUCK! I'll get back to you after I clean the kick marks off of my mini-tower.

Kshurika,

Thanks man, I look forward to your next post with the description of your carry methods.

I don't mean to laugh at your misadventures with your ISP - but damn man that was a funny post!!!!!!!

Thanks,

Chris
