AD-10, A little disappointed

First let me say, I really like the knife. Blade is perfect, scales are perfect, action is perfect. The aluminum liner fitting kinda sucks. I expected more. The liners were actually sharp and uncomfortable and looked like they just stuck it all together without a final finishing. Now I have a 4-Max Scout that was less than half the price that felt perfect. I managed to use a ceramic stone and a fine emery cloth and fixed the problem, but CS puts this out as a huge upgraded folder, so the question remains, should I have had to?

I checked my first gen (hollow ground) AD10 and my AD10 Lite and both have sharp edges on the inside liner edges. The AD10 gen 1 is very sharp actually. Makes me think it was not an oversight, just something they didn’t think was necessary. If so they were wrong about that, you can feel the sharpness in a tight grip. Luckily it is very easy to fix, as you and others found. I hope that doesn’t ruin the ride for you long term, the AD10 in all its iterations is really an outstanding knife.

I put OG scales on mine which removes the liners and that problem although i didnt notice it when it was still stock...

At least they have a nice symmetrical edge unlike a few other makers no need to mention who we all know :) Mine is an upgraded version but it’s perfection but then again so was my base model AD10.

I just picked up a new tanto one from the sale and compared it to the early drop point I have (not the first hollow ground-one, but with the pre-GSM logo). Main difference is the texture of the G-10, the old one has small grooves in it and the new one is smooth.

I guess the liners do have sharp edges on the inside if you're looking for them, but I don't see how that really matters. The scales are contoured so you don't actually feel those sharp edges.

The AD-10 was what got me into Cold Steel. When it came out, the draw wasn't that it was a special "upgraded folder." It was that they had made an accessible production version of the custom Demko AD-10, which was highly regarded and difficult to get ahold of even if you were willing to pay the asking price. Something about the design just gels so well.
