If you want to prevent the blade from ever rotating past the lock, here's what I did. Find a nail that fits inside the spring and bend it roughly matching the curve of the spring housing. Cut and polish the nail to the length that allows the lock pin to just lift off the tang. I'm guessing they designed the free play to allow for easier assembly. To assemble, fully seat the female pivots in place first , this makes assembly a piece of cake. Then use a drill bit or nail inserted through the lanyard tube to compress the spring and slide the lanyard tube into the yoke. Much easier done than said.
