I'll be looking for a small fixed blade at the NY Show this Saturday and out of everything that I've ever seen or heard about I'm leaning towards the DB. The AD looks like a close second. In the opinions of those who know more than me (that'd be most of you) are they some of the better choices that one can make? The main purpose is a very concealable defensive fixed blader that I'll hopefully never use. I was going to ask, "What's your favorite Strider?", but was afraid that same would answer with "Mick".

You may want to consider the MG for your intended purpose if you can carry a double edged knife.

Other than that the AD is the way I would go.

The EB series is alot larger and more knife to carry. If you can get away with it that is another option to consider.

What I suggest is buy them all and sell the ones that do not fit your life style. You should have no trouble finding homes for the ones that you do not want to keep if any. I want first dibs on the AD if you do not like it.:)

Mr. Pocket (or do your friends call you "Ankle"?):

Last night I spent a long time writing a really long-winded, detailed explanation to you of why the AD is the best knife for your needs and, in my opinion, the best knife that Strider makes. This f#%*ing forum wouldn't take it. Let me put it this way. There is not enough money on Earth to separate me from my AD (my only Strider) as it saved my life in India. Let me know if you want carry / handle wrap suggestions, etc.

Buy the AD. You'll never regret it.

Thanks for the input. Sounds like the AD is the favorite. Hope to leave the NY Show with one. Your previous discussion of blood sprays certainly got me excited as well. The only blood spray that I'll probably ever see will come from my finger the next time that I cut myself. Big Sur is out favorite place on the planet, by the way.

With all the huff about the AD lately I did what any good Strider fan should, and of course, got one last weekend. Here are my ideas on the DB vs. AD. What do you want it for? If you are looking for a small, fast deploying people cutter with great feel-Get an AD. For a good utility knife, I might lean towards the SA. The DB is a fantastic Knife for both prying (mine has pryed open a few locked windows, and kept many doors open by pinning it in the door jam. It will also dig well), and inflicting good penetrating injuries. Its got a great sweet spot where the two angled edges come together. It also has awesome tip strength. I think the DB does it all real well, while the AD is more weapon oriented, and the SA is probably the better straight utility cutter. All three will give you typical Strider excellence in performance. Good luck with the choice, its always tough.

I agree with the comparisons of the three knives. I have handled and used all of them, but, again, I have bought only an AD. It's ideal for carving up bad people who want to do you harm and convincing them that they should be good people. And yes, Big Sur is a proof of the existence of God. I only use my AD there to clean my nails and open boxes. My other home is in Kashmir. My neighbors there told me today with regret that I am no longer welcome, because the same Al Queda "religious" folks who murder thousands of Americans in sneak attacks are now murdering poor people who travel to Kashmir on foot for religious pilgrimage. They certainly are heroic when it comes to sneaking up on unarmed civilians and murdering them. Perhaps we should send some of our own "pilgrims" from Camp Pendleton and Fort Bragg to help the Kashmiris and then continue their pilgrimage to Afghanistan. Just a thought
