Hey there guys.

I've taken the scales off my AD, and I have a 1/2 mosaic pin, which slips into the tang holes quite easily (by easily I mean I don't have to hammer it)

I've been following a guide I've seen on another forum, and I've half shaped the scales and glued one side on. I've used a 6mm drill bit to drill through the scales, but the pin is 6.3 mm and the pin won't fit, the next size I have is 6.5mm

Could I tap the pin in the smaller hole, use the larger one with some epoxy or should I buy an imperial measure bit to fit?

do you pimps use slightly smaller bits for a tight fit or do you use epoxy to hold it?

any advice is appreciated, I can't go any further without knowledge.

thanks

The Busse knives have a .250" hole in the INFI handle for the hollow rivets. We can buy .250" dia. mosaic pins and it all fits pretty tight, so I don't really use a larger or smaller hole. I usually put a small chamfer on the outside of the scales, then epoxy plus flare the outside ends of the mosaic pin in order to have some retention, kind of like mushrooming a rivet. :D

does flaring the end of the pin distort the look of it?

I meant to say 1/4 before.

I have all the bits here, I just don't have the correct size drill bit.

will the gap be noticeable if I don't flare the ends?

thanks Hogducci

Just cut the pin to be 1/16" oversize on each end then peen it down with a hammer till it flares out/mushrooms. Grind off the excess and you are good to go.

It will take some serious uneven peening to distort the looks. Just take your time and you should be fine.
