Just saw a great ad on TV. Well, OK, "great ad on TV" is a bit of an oxymoron but this one was a little different. Basically it's reminding everyone about ANZAC Day which is on April 25.

You can read more about that here if you really want to.

Anyway, there was a line in the ad that really stood out:

"Freedom is a gift, a gift given by the warriors of yesterday."

Those of us lucky enough to have that gift of freedom should keep that in mind!

World War 1 has been a hobby of mine for the past several years.

Though America played a important (albeit late in the game) role in the First World War, many Americans just don't know too much about it. Sad, because a lot of what's going wrong in the world today can trace its roots back to what happened in 1914.

A lot of good men died for very little in the end.

If anyone had listened to the lessons the First World War had to teach, there wouldn't have been an even worse one in 1939.

If you're interested, this site will supply some good info from our point of view.

My grandfather was one of the legends, he was Lighthorse and served in the middle east.

A bit of an "adventure" by those guys!

If you ever get a chance to come to Oz, go to Canberra and visit the Australian War Memorial, fascinating place.

This is one of the memorials along the road leading up to the main site.

Here is another, a bit more modern, the Vietnam memorial.

Thanks for the links, Gaj.

Most of my readings have focused on the Western front, but I'm looking for some books about the southern and eastern campaigns. I'm also trying to get a hold of a large map of the western front (or multiple maps of the entire war zone) to hang on my wall... seems like it would make it a whole lot easier to see what's going on when I'm reading than flipping back through the books looking for the maps.

Try the AWM shop, they have all sorts of interesting stuff. There is a link from the main page. You can also contact them to get info.
