Ad10 lite lock question?

Got this a couple weeks ago and its great but I have one concern about the lock. When blade opens and lock engages the lockbar is slow and sluggish compared to my other cs (tuff lite and finnwolf) and every other lockback knife I've ever owned. The lock is secure and no play any direction but it just doesn't have a commanding snap and unlocking via bar is super smooth and can almost push all the way down with my pinky finger. Anybody else experience this with model?

Do you mean the lockbar is "slow" to fully drop into the blade notch? If so, have you tried flicking open the blade fast/hard to see if there's any difference? May just need to break in a bit. I don't have a Lite, but my regular AD10 had the best out-of-the box action of any Triad I've ever bought.

Jlauffer- yes it's slow to drop in notch. I've flicked it and no difference other than the bar sticks a bit and you feel a click when bar comes out of notch when pushing down on it. Maybe breakin is needing to mate parts. I'll work on it this weekend to see if things change.

Have you checked for any debris or burrs in the lock area? Is the lock bar spring functioning properly?

This was fairly typical, in my experience of many of the older model Tri-ad lock knives .

Do not be gentle , open hard and fast . Try to spray out any debris with WD-40 or similar .

Some guys resort to full disassembly and sanding the lock faces .

I never did that, but some of my break ins were lengthy. So , if a return to seller is possible , you might consider that option .

I've got some old Tri-ad knives, I've used for years, that never became as smooth as my AD-10 was upon receipt .

I don't have the Lite version but my AD-10 was so smooth ,out of the box , that I literally thought the lock was broken , at first . :p

Update! I read that if you switch stop pin for the lockbar pin it solves the issue. I switched them and put back together and now it's crazy loud and quick to lock up and the lockbar does seat deeper in tang. The lock up is still tight with no play so I guess it's fine in it's original condition so I switch it back to original setup. It's good to know that pin switch doesn't affect function. Thanks for all who replied.

My AD-10 is also light years ahead of my other Triad examples, though they're all pretty much the best lockback bar none

Depending on how you carry the knife check the blade for pocket lint build up. If anything is there use something like a toothpick and get it out. All lockback users should make a habit of checking their notch periodically as a general routine anyway but that is all it takes. I've had knives mailed to me to fix by customers back in yesteryear that just mailed without even telling me it was coming because the lock wouldn't work and that's all it was so just sayin'. I clean my pockets of lint after each wash & dry before wearing and before my knife even drops into my pocket.

Just some experience of mine, maybe it is interesting for someone:

I have a Counter Point XL that locks up exactly like this. I can thumb flick it open and it locks up rock solid every time, but the strong click sound is missing. I noticed that the thumb pressure needed to disengage the lock is the weakest of all my tri ad lock knives.

I also recieved a Recon 1 few weeks ago that had up and down blade play and the blade moved out of the handle when closed slowly. I batoned it through some wood for a few minutes, now it's as solid as it get's and the blade stays in the handle.

I had a SR1 with free play when closed, I polished and polished but the condition would return every so often. I finally held it up to the light and saw the liners and scales were bowed, tweaked it back straight and that solved the problem.
