Ok, I did not want to keep you all waiting to long for the "proof" test on this BIG bowie by Adam DesRosiers....

Here is a link to a lot of pics/specs of this blade BEFORE any cutting....http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=779446

... I did a liitle chopping on some Walnut trees today.. Walnut is a fairly dense wood when dried...meaning its some HARD stuff!

First I had to do some delimbing of green sucker growth...after that was out of the way, I selected one of the 3 large limbs coming out of the main trunk.

this tree has been dead a long time, so was very seasoned tough material and I believe a good test for any blade if it can get though this...

On with the show....

All done...What a blade!! After all of the delimbing...the two large dead walnut limb/trees...

It would STILL shave hair off my arm!!

damn that's big!
Great score man:thumbup:

Man, is that ever impressive! Nice to use the knife, but I personally would've rented a chainsaw for that job. I hope you have stock in whatever company makes BenGay!!! :D

Ben Gay? My spaghetti arm would be in a sling after all that chopping. :o Great to see that big beast taking some big bites.

I don't know if Ben is or not :D

But the ergonomics on this blade work good for me..I did not even need gloves..

I have done this a couple of times before with an exposed tang blade and the stick tang on this one seems to absorb a lot of shock and is much more comfortable in use.....

I could have bought a couple of nice chain saws for what this one cost,,,but what fun would that be??!!;)

Thanks all for taking a look and your comments!!

I had a great time, no need to hit the gym tonite!!

This is what it's all about! Judging by the pics, that blade must have lots of distal taper - I'll bet it feels light in the hand for such a massive blade. Adam's got mad skills...

Great thread - thanks for sharing!

you are correct...starts at 3/8" thick at ricasso and goes down to near 1/8" near the tip..
........................with plenty of "beef" at the sweet spot... knife weighs about 1 lb 14 oz.

it swings real nice!

...thanks for checking it out!

Damn that's awesome!!! The knife, ergo, heat-treat, and the fact that you freak'n tackled that!!! :D

But dude... that walnut should be going into some primo knife handles!!! :D

I love big knives being used like that. That's good stuff right there.

that is a nice looking burl there! Take Nick's advice there is definitely some worthy material to harvest. You could even send some up to Adam and Hayley for them to make more knives for you:thumbup:

Oh that thing is MASSIVE! I have a literacy brain fart trying to type out how I feel about that knife. I become tactless and caveman like. UFG! UGH!

Ok...Ok... I will try and salvage some of the wood.....

....thanks again all for your looks and comments...much appreciated!

FANTASTIC!!! Nice to see this one being put to use. I know I LOVE my DesRosiers knife... and the handle and blade ergonomics are the best of any blade I've personally used before.
