Hi guys. Does the Adamas have a floating blade stop pin? On mine if you hold the Axis bar back and push the blade against the stop pin it moves rearward like a c-hair. Not a lot, but just barely that you can feel it in your fingers. The blade stop screws are both tight. The knife is new. When the blade is locked open, and you grab the tip with up and down pressure there again is the c-hair of up and down movement. Can any other Adamas owners confirm this, or do I have a bum stop pin? Thanks in advance.

With 120+ views, and no help.....I called Benchmade. I told them it has up & down blade play. Everything is tight, and the knife is brand new. They said If I think there is something wrong with it send it in. Great. I have another brand new Benchmade knife with a problem. I'm not gonna send it in. It's not worth the time, and effort. I'll just chalk it up to Benchmade's shitty quality control once again, and never buy another Benchmade product.....ever.
Edit: The Adamas will be kept only because I like the ergo's and ultimately get thrown into the junk drawer to be used as a beater.

So you would rather throw a $180 knife into the junk drawer as opposed to sending it back to a Benchmade for a couple of weeks?

Yes. This is the second time in a row that I have gotten burned on a brand new Benchmade. The first was a Presidio 2 that had blade play in every direction, and the blade would fall out from the handle when tilted. That was returned for the Adamas. The Adamas has been in my pocket carried for just over a month, and has not even been used yet. I don't wrist flick it open I thumb it open. It just has this annoying little up and down play that wont go away. I'm a trucker, and I am on the road 10-12 hours a day. I don't have the time to send it back. At this point I'm just done with Benchmade. Plus there are horror stories on here about guys sending knives back only to have them return worse than when they left. Aside from the lock rock the knife is perfect...blade centering, side to side is solid, and the ergo's are great. I do like the knife, but that lock rock just kills it.

I hear you Scotty. Many of us work long days, or worked, depending. Being semi retired but still collecting, I just don't understand why Benchmade won't take the extra time to run each batch through a minimal QC check. In many cases, an adjustment is all, and how much longer would that take? If they did a lot less of us would be willing to toss knives like an Adamas into the toolbox and forget it's there. I have slowed down a lot with my purchases. One surprise this year was getting a little 319 Proper that actually was well built, but instead of buying a new model every few months that will be what I'll buy this year.

I wonder how much business they're losing when we enthusiasts stop buying their products; and maybe they really don't care, but that's a heckuva way to run a company.

Cheers,

Joe

The Adamas is like that. I have 2 of them, the black and the tan versions. The black one I used for a while and it developed some slight movement, not enough to make me start a thread over it. I mentioned it though when others asked about the 275. The tan one is new and has no movement whatsoever, in any direction. It's not a maraca or anything, but it should be solid. I heard years ago that the lock was designed to wear in over time, but I cannot see how that is possible because the lock when engaged has no more room to move at all, there is no room to wear in. Out of the box it is the way it will always be.

I hear ya RevDevil. The sad thing is I have had really good luck with past Benchmade purchases. A full size Griptilian - perfect, a BM/HK 14715 - perfect, a 62 Balisong - perfect, a mini Griptilian - perfect. I had high hopes for the Presidio 2. I really did. Sadly it was a dud with sloppy blade movement is all directions. The Adamas was acquired to replace it, but the up & down play just sours me. I was stepping up to Black Class heavy duty/combat knives, and got hosed on both. Like I mentioned earlier I just don't have the time, or desire to send it back. I honestly like the Adamas, but it will now get assigned to tool box duty.

I had 2 sebenzas, one with off centered blade and the other with the worst lock stick ever, it happens at any price point. I know how annoying it is tho. That tiny bit of vertical tick you can feel on axis locks is almost always a tiny little tolerance gap in either the pivot hole/pivot screw or stop pin etc. Also it can be cause by the axis bar just needing to rough up a little against the liner cutout that it slides in and then it stops. I have benchmades that are perfect and some with the tiny tick of vertical play, it doesnt affect the knife at all. Only you can decide how much it bugs you. I'd rather a tiny bit of vertical movement than have to worry about liner and frame locks that slip, stick, wear out or just disengage under force, that's why i gave up on frame locks. All i use are axis, tri-ads and the liner lock in the spyderco military now.

I took a better look at my Adamas with magnified glasses. I found that when the blade is against the stop pin and you apply pressure the blade is moving at the pivot area. Like you said Mick. ^^^^ Also when the blade is locked open if you push forward slightly on the Axis bar the blade is rock solid. I feel that it is a combination of that tolerance gap at the pivot, and that the Axis lock bar isn't fully seating. That's what is causing the lock rock.
