Adamas, you are so amazing, but why are you so quick to undress?

Today I was working in the wood shop and decided I wanted to see the Adamas baton a little. I split a small piece of oak with it and felt no chance that the knife was weakening or had any chance of lock failure.

However, the coating came off SO EASY. It undressed faster and easier than a certain group of college people that are known for undressing- if you catch my drift.

By no means would this knife succumb to wood or really any folder type tasks, and gosh nibbit I'd trust it to hold up if I needed it to. Just sad that it didn't take much for it to be not so pretty.

Now a questing remains. How much better is DLC?

That's why I do non-coated blades only. Coated - it will wear. The whole tacti-cool black/camo blades are useless.

Nice looking knife, although it would be great if it had a stronger finish like DLC. However, I think blade wear like that just adds character and makes it look cooler.

Being as thick as it is, it takes a lot of force to go through something hard like wood, so any coating is going to take a beating.

I just got one of these and am taking it camping this weekend. Such a dope beast of a folder. Batonning wood can do a real number on coatings in general but I am of the opinion that it adds good looking character. Thanks for sharing pics.

Enjoy the knife, man

Yea...that's my main gripe with the Adamas (which I love btw) is the coating. I just don't see what it adds. If you take care of your knife the coating is superfluous and if not then coating ain't going to help.
