My wife, who loves me very much, got me an aluminum bolstered 110 from Copper and Clad for my birthday earlier this year. Other than backpacking trips, the knife hasn't left my pocket.

I've never managed to deal with holster carry of anything but like large folders. My preferred mode of carry is in the right rear pocket and all of my pants have a seam running up the back pocket to keep the knife standing upright. It's easy, the carry is discrete and secure and it never interferes with my movement or with seat belts.

The standard 110 has been one of perennial favorite knives. Got my first one in the 70s and have always had one. But the weight... It's a bit much.

The aluminum bolstered 110 is just stunning to look at but the really big news is the weight. I will admit, that for the first week or so, it felt foreign to me. Not like a 110 is supposed to feel, I guess.

But now... I can't go back. The aluminum 110 has totally destroyed the classic 110 for me. The balance of the 110 is really perfect. The brass 110 now feels way too butt heavy and slow. The feel in the hand of the aluminum 110 still has the solid smooth feel of a real 110 in a way that the Ecolites didn't. Lock up is perfect. Unlike the Ecolites, it has no blade rock. And it looks like a real 110. In fact, with the micarta scales, it is downright stunning, reminiscent of the original 500s.

The only problem with the Copper and Clad aluminum 110 is the limit on blade and scale options. Huge thanks to Copper and Clad for bringing this to life. I think Buck would be crazy not to add this frame as an option in the custom shop.

Heading over to C&C right now to check it out AGAIN! I know that I'm gonna end up with one of these dang knives sooner or later. :D

I ended up chatting with someone on the Buck site and asked about a custom 110, Al bolstered, S30V drop point. They said that Copper and Clad had an exclusive unless I wanted to order 500 of them. C&C is now offering what I wanted so the itch is scratched. This is my 2nd lightweight 110 - made me a Buck fan again.

I have the Black Micarta with 420HC Clip Point. It really is great. We are lucky to have a lightweight option!

Red Micarta with BOS S30V Drop Point is on my list. My list is long and keeps growing.

I would like to see a 5160 drop point version too.

I have the red micarta and ebony dymondwood Al bolstered 110's from C&C. As much as I like the heft of my bronze bolstered 110, I always grab the aluminum versions when I head out the door. I wish there were more S30V options with the Al but the red Micarta does look better in person than in photos... and I really like the DP... so much that I'm going to buy a second.

Now, if only they made an aluminum 112 and had S30V DP on the custom shop configurator for both 112 and 110 I would be ordering a lot more off of Buck'swebsite. In the mean time, C&C gets my monthly knife budget for the next few months.

I can't remember if SKBlades' blue 110 will be Al or not, but if so, you might want to check that out too.

I feel the same as OP. I had in fact divested myself through trades, sales and giveaways of all my 110s, and 112s for that matter. Probably close to a dozen knives total. Just too heavy for my preferred pocket carry, so on a every so often thinning of the collection I decided they would be the ones to go. Then these things hit. Just ordered the red drop point to go with my ebony clip. Whats even better is I inquired with C&C and was told that 112s are also a distinct possibility within the next year or so! Game changer.

I never really payed too much attention to the aluminum 110s. This thread has me interested. Unless I missed it, I didn't see a weight listed on the Copper & Clad website. The brass 110 is about 7.5 oz. if I remember right. What's the weight difference between the aluminum and brass versions?

Jay, the weight of a Ti frame 110 has been posted here before and without digging to find that topic. I recall the difference being
very near half. Around a 3.5 oz. knife. Buck has made an entire series of knives with all aluminum handles, the 111 Classic series in 1980-90. The 110, 500, 505, 503, 510, 513 & 515, all thin & light . Now Copper & Clad stepped up so don't miss this 2nd or 3rd chance at a aluminum handled knife for those that want one. DM

On my scale: The aluminum bolstered clip point w/ Macassar Ebony is 4.09oz (116g) and the Al bolstered drop point w/ red micarta is 4.26oz (120g). [The sheath is 1.69oz. (48g)]

On my certified scale (Dayton) calibrated to 1 ounce increments. A 1990 macassar ebony FG 110 weighed a touch over 7 oz. and the club paperstone, bare headed 110 drop point weighed 6 oz.. If I can find my 111 Classic I'll weigh it. I wouldn't doubt it will weigh near 4 ounces. So, I would think the Copper & Clad aluminum 110 model will weigh near 5 ounces. A educated guess. Not a lot of weight savings unless you get one of the Classics. DM

Ok, I found my 111 Classic and weighed it. It came in at exactly 4 oz.. I laid it on the tray several times.Jot the weights down and you'll have them. This model is very thin at 3/8" wide. Slabs are 1/8" each and the blade 1/8". 4 stainless pins and comfortable in my back pocket. This one is a 3 dot so a 440C blade. DM

OK, I have some figures too...

Measured on Brecknell Electronic Postal Scale Model PS25:

DLT Exclusive Buck 110 (brass) S30V DP 110 7.2 oz
C&C Buck 110 Red Micarta (aluminum) S30V DP 4.2 oz
C&C Buck 110 Macassar Ebony (aluminum) 420HC CP 4.2 oz

Factory Buck 112 420HC w/Finger Groves 6.1 oz
C&C Buck 112 DP 5160 Micarta 6.4 oz

Scott, I'm certain the SK Blades blue 110 has a nickle frame. So, not a knife in this weight class. Glad to see several guys like these aluminum
frame 110's. DM
