Add me to the slightly bummed list (Mini Ritter)

Aw, s**t, just discsovered an easily visible small knick in the blade of my Mini Ritter. Sharpened it out on a diamond stone (didn't take long).

All I can figure was it must have happened on a zip tie or blister pack, as I haven't been out choppin' down trees or anything lately.

My respect for Doug and Benchmade isn't diminished, but I've got to admit I'm a little bummed. I guess the upside is that now I feel like I "have" to order one of the Cabela's Mini Grips. :)

If you are not vertian how the failure occured, why not resharpen it and see if the knife can handle your usual cutting chores without being damaged?

Yep, that's exactly my plan. Mini Ritter's in the back pocket now and will EDC and use it for a good while to see if this re-occurs.

I had the "other" ritter mini post. On mine, I've re-ground it twice. Once to get rid of the micro crack, and once just to put a sharper angle on it. I am convinced that it had less to do with the S30V than it does to how they might be putting the final edge on the blade. What ever the reason, Aeromedix was supurb with their response.

What the heck is it with zip ties, anyway? I think I'm going to make myself a suit out of them and wear it while I'm in Iraq!

Here's another thought. It has been my experience that BMs don't ship with a wire edge. In fact, very few mid to high end knives come with a wire edge. My young son gave me a buck for Christmas this year. It is one of the 420HC with the eagle and flag on it. It had a very pronounced wire edge which soon splintered off in a manner similar to the splinters on the Ritter Mini.

Just a thought.

Jemelby,

I'm not a terribly sophisticated sharpener, so I don't know that I could intentionally regrind or re-profile a blade with my current equipment.

I just took it freehand to a fine grit diamond stone for a few minutes, then finished it up on a pair of fine crock sticks and stropped it on a piece of leather. The little chip or knick is out, and she's still shaving sharp, so I'm reasonably un-bummed. Will see how it goes.

Like you, I've been very happy with Aeromedix customer service. They're good folks.

Good luck on your deployment and come home safe.

I have the pleasure of owning an EdgePro. It makes changing the shape of a blade a pretty easy task.

Next paycheck, I'm going to order the EdgePro Apex. :) You guys have convinced me!

Yet another company with great customer service! The EdgePro Apex puts 'scary-sharp' in the hands of all users and 'spooky-sharp' and 'stupid-sharp' in the hands of those wanting to take the extra time.
