I actually bought two of the 55', but I think I'm giving the other to my younger brother who lives out of state, and who is just getting around to making his annual Christmas visit in a week or two.

Wow, don't know how I missed that one...I had no idea. That said, I had no idea about the 112 until recently either. Thanks for the tip, and the picture.

The 111 was discontinued a few years back, so you may have to haunt the auction sites to find one. They are my favorite of the folding hunter line up.

Oh, and when you are searching, you will run across the original 111. The 111 model number was "recycled" and used for those I showed above.

Here's the originals.

Yes, I did a little search and looked at a couple of other threads about the 111. Wow, those originals are very attractive.

The top one of those three (originals) was my first Buck of any kind and the only Buck I owned when I found this forum. Times have changed and alot of money has changed hands since then!

I like the Buck 055 I'd even go as far to say that it would be a better EDC choice ( for me at least ) than the 110 and 112. I'd really love to see it offered in the custom shop and would buy one with an S30V blade in a heart beat.

I'm loving the 111 in the standard scales, rather than the aluminum. I'm assuming these are smaller than the 112, or am I wrong about that?

Gonna keep my eyes out for one. Need to keep the 110, 112, & 55 company.

Anybody got a pic of one next to a 112? Or a 110? Or a 55?

Nope, the 111 was a 110 are the same blade with a different handle. The ones with the wood scales above were built to use up the 111 stamped blades, if I remember correctly from the surfing I did around here looking for info on the 111.

Nice photo of your collection. I am inspired to start a collection of my own.

The story I got from a Buck rep on this forum was that the newer model 111 was produced in an attempt to give the smaller dealers something a little different than the regular 110 that they could sell at a higher price and not have to compete with the big box stores and chains. I'll see if I can find that thread. Another interesting thing is that except for Limited Editions, the 111 never showed up in the normal Buck catalog.

Two "111's"and a 110.

Interesting indeed. Guess I'll have to be on the lookout for one. Beautiful knife.

Thanks for the pix, Dave.

My pleasure. Here's the post from Bill Keys regarding the new model 111 after it was discontinued.

Actually, the 111 was not discontinued do to any difficulty in production, it was purely and ecconomic decision. Retailers as a whole, looked at the "standard" 111 as a 110. Our desire was to introduce a 110esque knife that mid and small retail could sell for more to compete with the Big Boxes (since they would not have the 111). Unfortunately, the 111 is viewed largely as a 110, so to a lot of people there was no reason to switch to the 111. So, we opted to use if for various special items and custom stuff.

For sure. S30V blade, NS bolsters, and some fancy handle options would make for a great gentleman's knife.

You need a 560 too (titanium 110)

...and why not a 500 and a 501 while you're at it?

So many nice Bucks to be had. That said, I really do like the more traditional looks of the wood and brass with a clip point blade. Reminds me of the hunting knives me and buddies grew up hunting with.

Have to agree with you. I also like the look & feel of the wood & brass. I would really like a 112 with a 500 blade.
